You're standing before a wall of white in the toilet paper aisle of your local retailer, thinking: How much difference can there really be between brands X,Y and Z? So you go with the cheapest, or the one you know best, only to be reminded later that, actually there's a big difference between good and bad TP. That's plain to see in Consumer Reports' toilet paper Ratings, where fifty points separate our first and last-place products. So before restocking your supply, be sure to check the results.

We test toilet paper on four key criteria, using a combination of machinery and sensory panelists. Strength is measured by an apparatus called an Instron, which pushes a steel ball through stacked sheets of paper. The same machine also evaluates tearing ease. All-important softness is determined by panelists, who gently caress each toilet paper. Disintegration, indicating how well paper will move through your home's plumbing, involves a water-filled beaker, a 20-inch stirring rod, and a vibrating plate.

The tough tests turn up quite a few stinkers. Take our bottom-rated CVS Earth Essentials, which received subpar scores for both strength and softness. Whole Foods' 365 Everyday Value and Walgreens' Big Roll performed only slightly better. These toilet papers are almost sure to disappoint.

Great Value Ultra Strong toilet paper from Wal-Mart

Out of the two dozen-plus products we tested, five performed well enough to make our winner's circle. Three are Walmart exclusives, including a pair of White Cloud products and Great Value Ultra Strong. Softness is superb with all three toilet papers, though only the top-rated White Cloud 3-Ply Ultra Soft and Thick combines softness with superior strength and disintegration. As a result, it was tops in our tests by a wide margin.

If you're not a Walmart shopper, consider our picks from Quilted Northern or CVS.

Looking for a green toilet paper? The most eco-friendly options are made from fibers recovered from paper that would otherwise end up in a landfill or incinerator, as opposed to trees from responsibly managed forests. Seventh Generation meets that claim, and it was quite soft in our tests, though not as strong as models that make our recommended list.

    • Reaction Grades: What they think about Cowboys DE of Taco Charlton

The pick is in and Taco Charlton is officially the newest member of the Dallas Cowboys. A first round filled with quite a few surprises, saw many Cowboys fans disappointed in the selection of the Michigan defensive end. What about those who don’t microscope any and all things Dallas? What did they think about the pick? The Cowboys have a preference for big defensive ends, and they certainly get one in the 6’5 Charlton. This is about where he should have come off the board. He allows Dallas to play three- and four-man fronts. Charton had bouts of inconsistency, but when he was on he warranted a first-round pick. He was a disappointment prior to last season, but he broke out with a final 2016 campaign

    • Man kicked off Delta Air Lines flight for needing to use the bathroom

Kimi Hamilton was travelling from Atlanta to Milwaukee on a Delta Air Lines plane when he urgently needed to use the toilet as take-off proceedings were underway. In fellow passenger Krista Rosolino's view, Hamilton's removal from the April 18 flight was an outrage and so was everyone else's forced exit from the plane when it returned to the gate in Atlanta. The Delta Air Lines quick-take on this incident is that federal law requires passengers to comply with crew instructions or run the risk of being seen as a security threat.

A study has finally found the source of Antarctica’s gruesome "Blood Falls". It’s been 106 years since Australian geologist Griffith Taylor discovered the vivid red falls flowing from the glacier named after him, onto the ice lake West Lake Bonney. It was originally thought to be caused by red algae, but it wasn’t until 2003 that it was decided the red color came from oxidized iron and water was most likely draining from a five-million-year-old saltwater lake. Now a study from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and Colorado College confirms the glacier not only has a lake underneath it, it also has its own water system which has been flowing for a million years. The team used echolocation to

By Steve Holland and David Brunnstrom WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said a "major, major conflict" with North Korea was possible over its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes, while China said the situation on the Korean peninsula could escalate or slip out of control. For most of us, Kate Middleton came into our lives officially when her engagement to Prince William was announced back in October 2010. When the couple married in April 2011, the world was introduced to the woman we now know as the duchess of Cambridge, a wife, humanitarian, mother of two, and of course, future queen. With all the information we've gotten about Kate's duties as duchess, we started thinking about what her life was like before she was thrust into the spotlight as a global icon. Sure, in a lot of ways she's changed since getting married (who hasn't?), but we have to believe that underneath her title, she's still the same old Kate. Here's what her royal highness was up to before
