The next superfood is here and it's called moringa

Moringa Superfood
The leaves of the moringa trees may be the world's most nutritious green—and they're coming to a health-food store near you.

Remember the moment when every runway regular suddenly became a supermodel? Now every healthy edible wants to be called a superfood. Which is why even that term likely doesn't do justice to moringa, a tree leaf that contains more nutrients and natural remedies than your body knows what to do with. Ancient warriors fueled for battle with the leaf extract, hot for the stamina and strength it gave them; and legend has it that Egyptian Pharaohs were buried with it to sustain them in the afterlife. Health-savvy Americans are the latest followers, thanks to the energy, immunity, and metabolism boosts moringa delivers.

"Moringa has incredibly nutritious qualities—it has 3.5 times the calcium of milk and 4 times the vitamin C of oranges," says David Wolfe, author of Superfoods. All you have to do is open the bag and let the good nutrients roll.

What's in it
A recent analysis of the leaves found that moringa contains more vitamin A than carrots, more iron than spinach, and more potassium than bananas. It also packs as much protein as milk or eggs.

How to consume it
If you can get your hands on the fresh leaves (not a grocery-store staple yet, as they mostly grow in southern Florida and California), expect a lemony, peppery spinach taste. Add to a salad mix or sauté. Skip expensive supplements and add the dry powder—which is just as nutritious as the leaves, says Johns Hopkins nutritional biochemist Jed Fahey—to smoothies or drinks (try Organic India Moringa Leaf Powder, vitaminshoppe.com). Sip moringa tea (republicoftea.com) or drink a moringa beverage (zijamoringa.com) straight up.

Where you'll find it
Mostly online and in supplement stores. A new snack bar made with moringa from Kuli Kuli is launching this month, and the superfood is hitting the restaurant scene: Sarma Melngailis, owner of Pure Food and Wine in New York City, says she'll be adding moringa to some items on the menu soon.

The Endorsement: Grooming Products Made With Moringa
The antioxidant-rich oil pressed from the seeds of the tree is revered by skin-care companies for its ability to moisturize and revive skin. Here are three products to try.

Moringa soap
Like olive oil, which has a similar makeup, moringa gently lifts dirt without leaving skin parched.
$4; bodyshop.com

Multi-Purpose Mattifying Moisturizer
This moisturizer improves skin complexion thanks to its vitamin C content.
$68; makemyyours.com

Moringa oil
The oil's anti-inflammatory properties make it ideal for healing minor skin irritations.
$23; kosia.co

    • Teeth cleaners leave restrooms with hidden surprises

Dear Amy: Where I work, we have several departments, which share a large, public bathroom. My issue is this: Often, I walk into the bathroom to see a colleague brushing their teeth in one of these public sinks. I'm guessing the most common reason is to prepare for a dentist appointment, but regardless of the reason, I find it really disgusting and thoughtless of others. I wash my hands in those sinks, and people think it's OK to spit their food, saliva and germs into a public sink? It turns my stomach, Amy. I understand wanting clean teeth prior to seeing the dentist, but isn't this poor (and unsanitary) etiquette? Your thoughts, please. Dear Disgusted: Some people brush their teeth after every

The T+L Social Ambassadors are a team of photographers who are taking it to the next level on Instagram. These are the people we see living their best lives, and inspiring our travels on a daily basis. These ambassadors help us all discover the world, whether its exploring a set of national parks, embarking on an African safari, or just taking some time to enjoy the sound of waves from a beach in Europe. Follow along as we introduce more of our ambassadors on the T+L website and social accounts. Sam Horine (@samhorine on Instagram) is a New York -based photographer and while his hometown may be his favorite place to take photos, he doesn't let that stop him from traveling the world. After growing up in a small town in Maine and poring over travel magazines like National Geographic, he's turned taking travel photos into a full-time gig. I started going to Europe in high school,Horine said. I traveled as much as I could in collegeI was poor and broke as a college student. It was always something that was important to me, seeing the world, having different perspectives, and trying new things. But it was after moving to New York City that he accidentallyfell into photography. I had taken pictures for years, and I was shooting music in the mid-2000s,he said. I had a lot of friends in bands. It was right around the time all of these blogs were happening. I connected with a lot of other photographers and writers and we created this little network. During all of this, he was still travelingadmittedly only a couple of times a year. And then came along the social media boom, which opened up all kinds of opportunities for travel brands and tourism groups. It was amazingpeople would pay me to go places with my iPhone and take photos,Horine said. And the rest is history. Just last year, Horine visited more than 13 different places. So, which destination around the world has the pull to make someone who travels the world for a living put it at the top of their list? Italy and Greece, for Horine. I was in Rome on a press trip,he said. Afterwards, me, my girlfriend, and a friend of mine who lives in Rome flew over to Greece and visited Santorini. We stayed in this dope cave house on Airbnb. We drank amazing wine, ate amazing food, it was my friend's birthday, we went sailing every day, jumped in the Mediterranean. I'd think, Hey, I feel like getting up for the sunrise. So I did. Italy was so good, he paid it another visit after experiencing Greece. It was one of those destinations I've been wanting to visit forever, he said.I had always known it would be great, but it was even better than I thought. I went to Cinque Terreanother bucket list destination. But, he still cites New York City as one of his favorite place to take photos: New York Cityit's my home, so I have to keep coming back.
