Don't miss out on big savings during Memorial Day

Memorial Day is Monday, May 27 – the unofficial start of the summer. You’re going to find some of the best sales since the start of the year. This Memorial Day weekend actually started in March, when Amazon kicked off its Memorial Day sale by taking 60% off shoes and accessories.

Memorial Day celebrates the brave men and women who died serving our country. Does bargain shopping diminish their gift to us? Absolutely not. In fact, it’s a fine tribute. Enjoying the freedoms provided for us by those who fell is a reminder of our blessings.

“We’re encouraged to see that such a high percentage of consumers plan to take advantage of Memorial Day weekend sales as May is a great time to get deep discounts on apparel, home goods and gym memberships,” says Mike Spankie, senior merchandising manager of Deals2Buy.com.

Keep the memories of the fallen in your heart, teach your children why Memorial Day matters, and honor our heroes by living your American Dream. If your American Dream means getting the most out of your hard-earned dollars, this is the article for you.

Clothing Sales

“Memorial Day is a great time to stock up on spring apparel, since we typically see deep discounts that qualify for an additional price cuts via a stacking coupon; combined, this can yield some big savings,” says Dealnews.com.

“Last year, for example, we saw promotions that slashed an additional 20% to 40% off sale items at stores like MLB.com, Original Penguin, Anne Klein, Perry Ellis, Macy's, and Speedo, oftentimes with items already marked 30% to 70% off. Additional retailers that offered some of the best clothing sales last year included ShopEcko, Old Navy, Betsey Johnson, and Backcountry.” Look for savings of up to 50% off select sunglasses and get free second-day shipping at SunglassHut.com. Laptops and Electronics

Laptop deals are still going strong, and we can expect to see Memorial Day sales from Fry's Electronics, Dell Home, and MacMall – as we did last year.” However, Dealnews.com goes on to recommend holding off until later in the summer when you can take advantage of back-to-school laptop sales and save a few extra bucks, or snag a laptop bundle.

On the other hand, the folks at Deals2Buy.com feel differently. According to a recent survey, consumers are in the market for good deals on technology. The survey found that 50% of consumers would be willing to pay less for an older laptop once a new one is released.“I would caution that May is not typically when we see the deepest discounts on new electronics, but if you’re willing to buy an older model, you’ll always get a cost benefit,” says Spankie. You can save up to 66% off computers, TV’s, Blu-Ray players, cameras, appliances and much more at BestBuy. Offers are changing daily between now and June 1, so check back often.

For eight years since leaving the White House, George W. Bush has refused to criticize publicly those who succeeded him, saying he didn’t want to make an already tough job any harder for President Obama and, now, President Trump. “I don’t like the racism and I don’t like the name-calling and I don’t like the people feeling alienated,” Bush, 70, tells PEOPLE in an interview for the new issue of the magazine on newsstands Friday. The former president, joined by his wife  Laura, spoke with PEOPLE in the third-floor painting studio of their Dallas home to launch his first art book, Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors. The collection of portraits of the wounded warriors of America’s war on terror aims to raise awareness and funds for the post-9/11 veterans’ health care and employment programs of the George W. A Florida woman needed advice on cutting the strength of her heroin supply. So she turned to her incarcerated boyfriend. “You’ll figure it out,” Robert Rigby, in jail on drug charges, told Melissa Winings in a phone call. “If you get hit in the head enough times you learn to wear a helmet.” A day later, Winings was arrested, charged with manslaughter. Police say she gave carfentanil to a 34-year-old Sarasota man who then died. Rigby, 42, gave Winings a set of numbers to reduce the potency of her drugs. “Will you do that for me now on, not guesstimate and use those numbers?” Rigby asked. “Yes, baby,” the 25-year-old Nokomis woman said. But in the early hours of Aug. 29, 2016, Sarasota County Sheriff’s

Dear Amy: For the first time in many years, I have been thinking about an episode from my earlier life. I got pregnant one month before my 16th birthday. I know it sounds dramatic, but I felt betrayed by life, and I decided to terminate my pregnancy. Well, 19 years later, I'm actually still friends with my ex, who lives in another state. He is married and has gorgeous children, and I couldn't feel happier for him! My current boyfriend (of eight years) is ... "OK." For decades, the oil market has been dominated by Saudi Arabia, because it not only produced the most oil on a daily basis but also controlled the most oil underground. Those oil resources, known as reserves, gave the country leverage because it could ramp its output up or down to respond to market conditions. It often used that advantage to keep oil prices at a level of its choosing by putting pressure on other members of OPEC to follow its lead. That said, there's a new kid it town that, thanks to advances in drilling technology, now has more reserves than the Saudis. That surprising newcomer is none other than the United States of America, which, according to one estimate, has the world's

As 2016's Best Actress winner, Brie Larson was tasked with presenting the award for Best Actor at the 2017 Academy Awards.
