Salute these shorts for summer

Summer is upon us, and it’s time to start thinking about shorts. Depending on where you live, chances are good that you’re getting ready to pull out that bin full of your shorts from last summer (and probably many summers before). As you do that, allow me to make a suggestion: consider throwing out at least half of them. If they have pockets that you don’t use, if they are past the knee, or if they have embroidered whales or lobsters, it’s time to say good-bye.

Luckily, I have five of my favorite new shorts waiting in the wings, and there’s a little something for everyone. (Even you, Dad.)

JACK SPADE

I’m just going to assume that you have already gotten rid of your pleated khaki shorts years ago. If not, here is the Barneys Web site. You are going to need a lot more help than just this one pair. If you are, however, now growing bored of your plain-front khakis, then why not add a little color blocking to your life? Fun, no?

J.CREW

I have been looking for a pair of shorts just like these. They’re short enough to show off a little leg without being short enough to make me look creepy. I plan on getting them in every color. This is going to be my short for the summer.

BAND OF OUTSIDERS

O.K.—I know that I said to ixnay the shorts with the embroidered whales, but these are not whales. They are sailboats. And they are Band of Outsiders, so it’s a very different thing. I feel that these shorts are almost poking fun at the Nantucket preppy trend.

SATURDAYS

Saturdays has perfected minimal beachwear, and, quite frankly, everything they make is heaven. These Tommy chino shorts are the perfect length and fit. I suggest getting a pair in green or navy, but I love them in every color offered. They’re a new classic, and you will live in them all summer long. You may even be tempted to wear them to the office. Don’t.

ORLEBAR BROWN

Orlebar has already become the swimsuit of the moment—you’d be hard-pressed to go to the Hamptons without seeing all of the chic men wearing these. I love the idea of cutoff sweatpants; they are super-comfortable and great for lounging around the house but unfortunately too casual for much else.

These Orlebar Brown sweat shorts are the perfect solution: they, too, are incredibly soft and comfortable, but the finished hem makes them acceptable to wear outside the house.

The text message was sent way back on July 5, 2013. Perhaps because its sender, Alexander Bradley, realized it held unwanted power, like the capability of impacting his immunity deal in an Aaron Hernandez double murder trial, let alone rocking the entire case altogether. In a plea deal, Bradley, however, gave authorities full access to his phone, including deleted and otherwise privileged communication with his lawyer.

    • We Let Our Baby Cry It Out, and 10 Years Later, This Is What Happened

Three months into this parenting gig, I'd had enough. Our bedtime routine with our infant son had turned into a two-hour affair that left me and my husband eating dinner at 10 p.m., me up with indigestion for another few hours, and only a few hours of shut-eye before I had to wake up for the day. I was preparing to go back to work, and no amount of concealer, corrector, or eye masks could hide the dark purple circles that had become permanent fixtures under my eyes, never mind function like a thinking adult in an office job. I needed a solution, and I needed one quick. My own parents swore by "Ferberizing" me, and I was willing to give it a try. Ferberizing, or "crying it out," is a sleep training

Nancy Kerrigan is competing on this season of Dancing With the Stars, and this time around, Tonya Harding isn't around to intervene.  But ice skater drama is forever, so Kristi Yamaguchi, 1992 gold medalist and a previous champion of the reality show, chimed in to give her fellow '90s ice queen some cold advice.  Kerrigan, of course, had a painful road to the 1994 Olympics after Tonya Harding's ex-husband clubbed Kerrigan in the knee just a month before the Lillehammer games. She did, however, go on to win the silver. Harding ended up finishing in 8th place after all the drama.  Kerrigan managed to get through the first round of Dancing With the Stars injury-free and will dance another day. Kerrigan

NBA road teams are playing with historic levels of clear-headed competence, and one general manager knows who — make that what — to thank: Tinder. “No need to go to the clubs all night anymore,” the GM told ESPN for an in-depth feature about NBA players’ partying habits — to summarize: bottle service and dimly lit pick-ups mostly have been replaced by room service and app-arranged hook-ups. Messaging through Instagram actually is preferred to Tinder, according to ESPN. Players are known to have hotels leave keys for their road romances to get into their rooms before they even arrive. “It’s absolutely true that you get at least two hours more sleep getting laid on the road today versus 15 years

The US have deployed strategic bombers to the Korean Peninsula to participate in joint mock air raids with South Korea's military in preparation for a possible conflict with North Korea. In past weeks the relationship between Washington and Pyongyang has deteriorated with joint US-South Korea military drills being met with rocket launches from the North. On Wednesday (22 March) the US and South Korean troops simulated crisis operations with the US bomber reportedly leaving from the Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, then performing training exercises with Japanese F-15J fighters.
