Reasons you should buy Canon point-and-shoots and printers

Canon PowerShot S100

When it comes to digital imaging, a number of well-respected brands specialize in either cameras or printers. Rarely does a company excel in more than one area. But Canon stands out as a reputable brand that crosses over several categories, including point-and-shoot cameras and printers.

MORE AT CONSUMER REPORTS

For example, if you're looking for a digital camera, the low rate of repairs for Canon cameras reported in our most recent brand-reliability survey should be reassuring. Our survey indicates that Canon (along with Panasonic and Sony) is a best bet on brand performance for superzooms (which include lenses with 15x optical zoom or more), subcompacts, and compact cameras. Such Canon point-and-shoots include the compact PowerShot S110 ($450).

Another category that Canon has done well in, according to our test, is all-in-one printers. Our testers rated Canon (along with HP) as a best bet for these best-selling inkjets. We don't have reliability info on them, but Canon has done well based on our performance ratings. Some recently tested recommended Canon models include Canon Pixma MG8220, $300 and Canon Pixma MG3220, $60.

    • The letter I had to write to my child’s teacher

I was only in the classroom for 45 minutes, but that was long enough to compel me to write a letter to the teacher once I left. I’ll be honest, I have zero qualifications as it relates to child education. My only qualification and reason for being in a kindergarten class that day is my oldest child is a kindergartner. He attends a public school and I was in his classroom as a parent volunteer. His teacher had asked parents to sign up to help during the daily Literacy Center portion of the morning. I was excited to go in, see my son in his classroom, and meet his classmates. When I arrived, the class was sitting on the floor, singing, and drawing the alphabet in the air with their fingers. • Ex-Gang Member Freed by Obama Was ‘Executed’ by Masked Men

Two months after President Obama freed him from prison, two masked gunmen took his life. Damarlon Thomas was serving time for drug distribution when this president commuted his and 78 others’ sentences in November. Thomas, a former gang member, had served eight years of his 19-year sentence and was released to a federal halfway house in his hometown to serve out the final months before his new release date in March. But shortly after his arrival, he was shot dead in an “execution”-style hit, police say. On January 23, Thomas was living at Bannum Place, a federal halfway house in Saginaw, Michigan, where he was transferred sometime after his sentence was commuted in November. At approximately

    • NATO in the crosshairs: Who's not paying their bills

President Trump has a beef with NATO. He's called the alliance "obsolete" and accused other members of not spending their fair share. "We are spending a tremendous amount in NATO and other people proportionately less," he said during the campaign. "No good." When it comes to costs, Trump has a point. Only five of NATO's 28 members -- the U.S., Greece, Poland, Estonia and the U.K. -- meet the alliance's target of spending at least 2% of GDP on defense. Getting more NATO members to pay their way will be something Trump and U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May can agree on when they meet Friday at the White House. The alliance increased overall defense spending for the first time in two decades in 2015,

In the early 1980s, the Reagan Administration was looking to fund high visibility defense programs. Reagan had been elected on a platform of rebuilding the armed services after the “hollowing out” of the early 1970s. One example was the reactivation of four World War II-era Iowa-class battleships, which started in 1982. Each of the four ships, Iowa, Missouri, New Jersey and Wisconsin was refurbished, their sixteen and five-inch guns brought back online. Each battleship was also equipped with sixteen Harpoon anti-ship missiles, thirtytwo Tomahawk land attack cruise missiles and four Phalanx close-in weapon systems (CIWS) for defense. The four battlewagons were swiftly retired after the end of

    • Get a First Look at the Palm Springs Home Where the Obamas Are Vacationing Right Now

After handing over the keys to the White House to President Trump on Friday, President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama retreated to this stunning 11,000-square-foot stucco home in the Palm Springs area of Southern California for a little time off. Built in the early 1970s by architect Howard Lapham, the home (nicknamed Icha Mayapan, or “exclusive estate”) is a standout example of Mayan Revival design, a popular midcentury style influenced by several Frank Lloyd Wright-designed homes from the 1920s, including the Hollyhock and Ennis houses in Los Angeles. Its current owners, James Costos, ambassador to Spain and Angora under President Obama, and L.A.-based designer Michael S. Smith, who also redecorated the White House while the Obamas lived there, restored the home several years ago.
