I was only in the classroom for 45 minutes, but that was long enough to compel me to write a letter to the teacher once I left. I’ll be honest, I have zero qualifications as it relates to child education. My only qualification and reason for being in a kindergarten class that day is my oldest child is a kindergartner. He attends a public school and I was in his classroom as a parent volunteer. His teacher had asked parents to sign up to help during the daily Literacy Center portion of the morning. I was excited to go in, see my son in his classroom, and meet his classmates. When I arrived, the class was sitting on the floor, singing, and drawing the alphabet in the air with their fingers. At this point, everyone, including the legal system, is starting to see the joke behind Lamar Sally and his perpetual scheme to drain his ex-wife Sherri Shepherd of every dime she has. Though Shepherd was already shelling out $4,100 in monthly child support, just last month, Sally was requesting more.  He argued that Shepherd was earning more money than when the judgment was first made and in addition to wanting more of it, he was also requesting that Shepherd pay an additional $75,000 in legal fees. But a California judge shut all of that down, throwing out Sally’s request. The judge determined that New Jersey and not California has jurisdiction over the child support case Sally attempted to

Tap, tap tap. Scott Standfast knocked on the door again. He’d been at it for several minutes, standing in front of a one-story brick house in Niceville, Florida, on a warm, dry day in November 2015. The then-59-year-old former Marine and his wife had driven more than 11 hours to get here, hoping to answer a question that’s haunted him for 40 years. He knocked again. This time, harder. Boom, boom, boom! Still no answer. About four decades ago, Standfast fought in the last battle of the Vietnam War, and his memory of it is sharp—from the location of enemy positions to the smothering jungle foliage. But it’s not what he remembers that troubles him; it’s what he can’t recall about that traumatic

    • Get a First Look at the Palm Springs Home Where the Obamas Are Vacationing Right Now

After handing over the keys to the White House to President Trump on Friday, President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama retreated to this stunning 11,000-square-foot stucco home in the Palm Springs area of Southern California for a little time off. Built in the early 1970s by architect Howard Lapham, the home (nicknamed Icha Mayapan, or “exclusive estate”) is a standout example of Mayan Revival design, a popular midcentury style influenced by several Frank Lloyd Wright-designed homes from the 1920s, including the Hollyhock and Ennis houses in Los Angeles. Its current owners, James Costos, ambassador to Spain and Angora under President Obama, and L.A.-based designer Michael S. Smith, who also redecorated the White House while the Obamas lived there, restored the home several years ago.

    • iPhone 7 Plus vs Google Pixel ‘bokeh’ shootout isn’t even close

Even though Apple would prefer to own the smartphone market outright, the existence and popularity of Android has positively impacted the iPhone by forcing Apple to deliver new innovations each and every year. Especially in the camera space, Apple has spent a great deal of time and money ensuring that the camera technology and performance packed into each successive iPhone model is best in class. One of the more compelling camera innovations Apple delivered last year was a new Portrait Mode feature available exclusively on the iPhone 7 Plus. With two 12 megapixel sensors -- one a wide angle lens and the other a telephoto lens -- the iPhone 7 Plus can deliver a "bokeh" effect similar to what one might see on high-end DSLR cameras. Specifically, Portrait Mode uses advanced software that artificially blurs the background of a photo while simultaneously bringing the main subject of a photo into much sharper focus. The end result, as Apple has not been shy to boast, is jaw-dropping. Not to be outdone, Google's flagship Pixel smartphone attempts to deliver a similar effect with a camera feature it calls "lens blur", though the implementation isn't exactly the same as what Apple is doing on the iPhone 7 Plus. In any event, PhoneArena recently decided to pit the iPhone 7 Plus against the Google Pixel in a battle to see which device can offer up the best bokeh effect photos. Not to spoil anything, but the competition isn't even close. While the Pixel can hold its own in some shooting situations, the iPhone 7 Plus delivered more compelling shots most of the time, as evidenced by the photo comparison below. You can check out even more examples of the iPhone 7 Plus vs Google Pixel photo standoff via the link above. Interestingly enough, though perhaps not all that surprising, the iPhone 7 Plus' camera proved to be such a hit with consumers that early demand exceeded even Apple's own optimistic expectations. Unfortunately, rumor has it that the Portrait Mode feature will remain exclusive to the 5.5-inch form factor and won't be available on Apple's 4.7-inch iPhone 8.

A giant goddess sculpture has been found on the sea floor off the south-western coast of Turkey. The 2,700-year-old artefact was found by archaeologists investigating the contents of a 43m deep shipwreck uncovered in November 2016. Researchers from Dokuz Eylül University sifted through an area of approximately 300 sq ft off the coast of Bozburun, in Turkey's Marmaris district, hoping to uncover Mediterranean relics.
