We're a nation addicted! Americans spend over $3 billion a year on frozen pizzas. Here, you'll find yummiest buys in cheese, veggie and pepperoni varieties.

THE OVERALL WINNERS

Winner for Cheese:

Tombstone Original Extra Cheese ($5 for 20.5-oz. pizza)

This "fresh-tasting" pie is layered with "tangy" sauce and tons of "gooey" cheese. Its crisp yet "doughy" crust got a thumbs-up, too.

Tasters' Pick: This “flavorful” pizza was praised for its crispy yet "doughy" crust, “gooey” cheese, and “fresh” tasting sauce. A few tasters thought it had a kick from spices that made it taste like pepperoni.

Winner for Veggie:

Amy's Roasted Vegetable Pizza ($8.29 for 12-oz. pizza)

Tasters flipped for this pizza's bold flavor ("It tastes better than it looks") and barely noticed that there was no cheese under the "sweet" caramelized onions, peppers, and mushrooms.

Taster’s Pick: Tasters loved this “unique” flavored pizza with its “sweet” caramelized onions, peppers, and mushrooms. Its “pillowy” yet crisp crust had tasters drooling.

Winner for Pepperoni: Taster's Pick

Red Baron Classic Crust Pepperoni ($4.50 for 20.6-oz. pizza)

Earning points for "homemade flavor," this pizza impressed tasters with a "crunchy" but "chewy" crust that was "not too thick or thin." Also earning raves were the spicy pepperoni slices — for a real kick of flavor — atop gooey sauce.

Stouffer's Cheese French Bread Pizza

(Courtesy of Stouffer's)

Stouffer's Cheese French Bread Pizza | $3.19

Tasters were split on this pizza from Stouffer’s. While some loved its “sweet” sauce and “flaky” French bread crust, others thought it had “too many spices,” lacked cheese, and tasted more like garlic bread than pizza.

CPK Crispy Thin Margherita

(Courtesy of California Pizza Kitchen)

CPK Crispy Thin Margherita | $6.49

While tasters loved the bits of chopped tomato on top of this pie, they were less than impressed with its “sour” and “artificial” taste and its “chewy” texture.

.
Totino's Cheese

(Courtesy of Totino's)

Totino's Cheese | $1.39

Many tasters liked the “crunch” of this pizza’s “light,” “flaky” crust, but found the sauce had an “acrid,” “fake” aftertaste from the dried herbs.

.
Jack's Cheese

(Courtesy of Jack's)

Jack's Cheese | $3.59

While some tasters raved about this pie’s “fresh” and “spicy” flavor, others thought it tasted “bland” and “stale.” They were also divided on its crust with some calling it “rubbery” and others saying it had a “decent crunch.”

Archer Farms Wood-Fired Margherita

Archer Farms Wood-Fired Margherita | $4.99

Although some tasters appreciated the basil leaves on this pie, the herbs weren’t enough to save it. “Not a ton of flavor,” wrote many testers. One taster summed it up best, “crisp, but no flavor!”

.
DiGiorno Crispy Flatbrea

VEGGIE: Editors' Pick

DiGiorno Crispy Flatbread | $6.59

Tasters praised this pizza from DiGiorno for its “classic” pizza taste with natural-tasting veggies, “great basil flavor,” and ultra-crispy crust. They were also fans of its tangy sauce that had “a little kick.”

Newman's Own Roasted Vegetable

(Courtesy of Newman's Own)

Newman's Own Roasted Vegetable | $6.99

The thin, crispy crust and bold, “flavorful” veggie taste of this pie were a huge hit. Those looking for a milder flavor thought that the herbs and veggies were a little “overpowering.” One taster thought that there was “more veggie than pizza.”

.
Freschetta Brick Oven Mushroom Spinach

(Courtesy of Freschetta)

Freschetta Brick Oven Mushroom Spinach | $6.69

Our tasters longed for more sauce on this pizza, which might have prevented it from having a texture that was “a little like cardboard.” Its impressive amount of gooey cheese wasn’t enough to cover up its “hard” crust, although the big chunks of “yummy mushrooms” were appreciated by volunteers.

.
Archer Farms Mediterranean Arugula

(Courtesy of Target)

Archer Farms Mediterranean Arugula | $5.02

While some tasters liked this pizza's “fresh” tasting tomato and basil, others thought the flavor “odd” and “watery.” Some were also turned off by the dough and cheese, which they thought were too “thick” and “chewy.”

.
CPK Crispy Thin Roasted Vegetable

(Courtesy of California Pizza Kitchen)

CPK Crispy Thin Roasted Vegetable | $6.49

While some tasters liked the “crispy” texture of this pie and said it “tastes like homemade,” others thought its “unpleasantly sweet” sauce tasted “oddly mustardy” and was “heavy on the herbs.” “Whoa garlic!” expressed the general sentiment of many tasters.

Annie's Rising Crust Spinach Mushroom

(Courtesy of Annie's)

Annie's Rising Crust Spinach Mushroom | $9.99

Although one taster thought this was the “best looking” pie of the bunch, almost all tasters agreed that this pizza was “weird,” “tasteless,” and “too doughy.” Likening it to spinach dip, several tasters even asked, “Is this pizza?”

.
Tombstone Veggie

(Courtesy of Tombstone)

Tombstone Veggie | $4.99

Although tasters thought the veggies on this pie tasted “fresh,” there simply were not enough of them. Its satisfyingly crunchy crust also gained it some points, which it promptly lost by virtue of its “too sweet” sauce.

.
Kashi Roasted Vegetable

(Courtesy of Kashi)

Kashi Roasted Vegetable | $5.99

This pie’s “garden tasting” veggies weren’t enough to save it from its “soggy” crust and “cardboard” texture. Tasters thought that it needed a lot more cheese and sauce.

.
DiGiorno Pepperoni

(Courtesy of DiGiorno)

PEPPERONI:

DiGiorno Pepperoni | $6.59

Editors’ Pick: This “chewy” contender (one taster even said it was a dead ringer for “deep dish”) was praised for its “flavorful” pepperoni and “good amount of cheese.” Unfortunately, this pie lost a few points for those seeking a crisper crust.

View gallery

.
Tombstone Pepperon

(Courtesy of Tombstone)

Tombstone Pepperoni | $4.99

Despite this pizza’s “unpleasantly soft” and doughy crust, tasters loved the “bold” flavor of the chopped pepperoni bits evenly distributed over the pie.

.
Market Pantry Pepperoni

(Courtesy of Target)

Market Pantry Pepperoni | $2.77

Tasters thought this pizza’s crust was “too thin” with a “cardboard-like” texture. However, its pepperoni and cheese added a “deep” and “spicy” flavor that they couldn’t get enough of.

.
Stouffer's Pepperoni French Bread Pizza

(Courtesy of Stouffer's)

Stouffer's Pepperoni French Bread Pizza | $3.19

This pie’s French bread crust was “too thick” for our tasters, who wanted less dough and more pepperoni. However, its “spicy” yet “sweet” sauce was a success.

View gallery

.
Totino's Pepperoni

(Courtesy of Totino's)

Totino's Pepperoni | $1.39

Although some tasters praised this pie’s “sweet sauce,” most thought it had a “weird aftertaste” and needed more cheese and pepperoni. Also, its thin crust was a little “mushy” for our volunteers.

View gallery

.
Freschetta Signature Pepperoni

(Courtesy of Freschetta)

Freschetta Signature Pepperoni | $6.69

Although tasters were not fans of this pizza’s “soft” texture, its “spicy,” “salty” pepperoni was a huge hit. Volunteers also complained that it was a bit too “oily.”

View gallery

.
365 Thin Crust Pepperoni

(Courtesy of Whole Foods)

365 Thin Crust Pepperoni | $4.99

This thin crust pie was “too sweet” for some tasters, who also didn’t care for the “shreds of pepperoni.” Others appreciated its “nice garlicky flavor” and hints of basil.

View gallery

.
Jack's Pepperoni

(Courtesy of Jack's)

Jack's Pepperoni | $3.59

Although this pizza’s “rubbery” crust and “fake pepperoni” taste left most tasters unimpressed, they loved that it had more sauce and cheese than many of the other pies.

View gallery

.
CPK Signature Pepperoni

(Courtesy of Target)

CPK Signature Pepperoni | $6.49

Tasters agreed that this pie lacked the zesty pepperoni flavor they were expecting. Overall, this pizza was also too “soggy” and “gummy” for their liking.

Annie's Pepperoni

(Courtesy of Annie's)

Annie's Pepperoni | $9.99

Tasters described this pie’s crust as “tough” and “artificial tasting.” While some enjoyed its very spicy pepperoni, others thought it was too “greasy” and lacked flavor.
