Father's Day gifts to avoid this year

Hair Loss Remedies

Skip the clichés and the well-intentioned missteps this year. Get Dad something good, not any of this stuff below.

Hair Loss Remedies

Maybe he needs it or even sort of wants someone to buy it for him. Still, save it for an everyday present and give Dad something else on Father's Day instead: maybe a cool baseball cap, if that hair loss is really an issue.

Back Shaver

Keep the grooming gifts to things that feel more luxe and pampering than hygenic and personal, like a badger shaving brush James Bond would love.

Cologne

Dad's going to want to pick out the scent himself—it's a personal thing. If you want to go the toiletry route, opt for something like these travel-sized kits, a lifesaver for last minute weekend or business trip packing.

Aprons

If Dad spends a lot of time in the kitchen, it might seem like a good idea. But he'll probably be more excited by a gadget like a single-cup coffee maker or a juicer or an electric BBQ fork (the last of which is pretty much the same price as an apron).

Fancy Desk Accessories

It's an understandable thought when Dad is the definition of The Man Who Has Everything. But he'd probably want something more fun to play with in his office, then, like a toy drone helicopter or a desktop record player.

#1 Dad Anything

Best Dad" or "#1 Dad" motifs are cheesy, but you can still let him know he's the best Dad ever by giving him other stuff like cool beer steins or an orange squeezer for fresh juice every morning.

Ties

If dad loves ties and you find one that he cannot live without, then go for it! But for the most part this gift is too cliché. Pick an accessory that he'll get the most use of this summer, like a classic pair of sunglasses.

Derek Jeter knows talent when he sees it, no matter the uniform. The former New York Yankees shortstop finished up his annual Captain’s Camp on Tuesday with the franchise’s minor leaguers, ending it with dinner at a Tampa, Fla., restaurant. Jeter held a little Q&A for the young guys, too, and that’s when left-handed pitching prospect Justus Sheffield asked No. 2 who his favorite player to watch today is. And Jeter picked a member of the rival Boston Red Sox. “I asked (Jeter) who did he like if he was watching right now, and he said he just likes guys that play the game hard,” Sheffield told reporters Wednesday, per NJ.com’s Randy Miller. “He mentioned watching Mookie Betts. Yiannopoulos, who has built his personal brand on anti-Muslim, anti-feminism, and general bigotry, exemplifies the place where she doesn’t believe the conservative movement should go.

Le Batard, a veteran ESPN sports personality, didn’t as much rebut the racism claims — he didn’t think he needed to based on his “history” — as he attributed the angry responses to a larger race problem in the United States. “Now, I am in the middle of a storm where there are a lot of people laughing that I am in the middle of a racism controversy,” he said on “The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz.” “The social justice warriors are eating their own! • 'Country Over Party': Dershowitz to Leave Dems If Ellison Elected DNC Chair

Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz, a high-profile Democrat for decades, said in an op-ed published Friday that he will leave the party if Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) is elected chairman this weekend. "My loyalty to my country and my principles and my heritage exceeds any loyalty to my party," Dershowitz, who supported Hillary Clinton in 2016, wrote in "The Hill" newspaper. Dershowitz recounted Ellison's history of controversial statements and actions many deemed anti-Semitic, including the congressman's history with Louis Farrakhan's "Nation of Islam" movement. "A prominent lawyer ... told me that while he was a law student, Ellison approached her and said he could not respect her because she was a Jew and because she was a woman who should not be at a law school," Dershowitz claims in the column.

    • Video of 'chubby' tigers taking down a drone may be way darker than you think

A video of "chubby" Siberian tigers taking down a drone, complete with a silly soundtrack — like so much viral content — is more than what it seems.  While the video's been shared far and wide, but the origins of the footage have been a cause for concern for a while now.  SEE ALSO: Watch a bunch of chubby tigers take down a drone and try to eat it As science journalist John R. Platt tweeted, the footage is "obviously a tiger farm."  Reminder: China has an estimated *7* wild tigers left. Many more in this video = obviously a tiger farm. They'll be turned into bone & wine https://t.co/7hxmkSDei2 — John R Platt (@johnrplatt) February 23, 2017 While the name of the park isn't mentioned in the description of the videos (as to avoid searching of the park's record according to Platt,) the location is.  Heilongjiang Province in China is the home of Harbin Siberian Tiger Park. It's one of the two biggest tiger-breeding facilities in the country, according to a 2013 report on the country's clandestine tiger trade by the Environmental Investigation Agency. The park is advertised as a tourist attraction, where visitors can offer meat and even live animals, to the tigers. As per a report by McClatchy , the number of visitors doesn't cover the cost of feeding or breeding hundreds of tigers each year. The real money comes from the sale of tiger pelts, tiger bone wine, and other products that have been banned in China. McClatchy visited Harbin Siberian Tiger Park, and reported bottles of tiger bone wine on display — albeit not advertised as tiger bone wine, but some had images of tigers on the packaging. Some of these "bone strengthening wines" advertise the use of tiger bone in its manufacture to distinguish itself from other wines in its category, according to the Environmental Investigation Agency's report. The same park was under scrutiny after conservation groups were outraged at images of obese tigers, thought to be seriously ill. Last word on tiger-drone video: Chinese media often share cute tiger videos. They're all propaganda to hide the reality of tiger farms. — John R Platt (@johnrplatt) February 24, 2017 Since 1993, there has been a ban on the trade of tiger bones, but the state has encouraged the growth of tiger farms. In 2007, India and the UK called on China to ban tiger farms due to concerns over the impact it had on the wild population.  [h/t Motherboard ] BONUS: This organization is providing kids with 3D-printed prosthetics — free of charge
