Domino’s Brazil tests DVDs that smell like pizza

Yahoo Shopping

The marketers who work for Domino's Pizza in Brazil must know that when selling pizzas, the nose can be a powerful ally.

Domino's in Brazil partnered with 10 DVD-rental stores to rent discs that, when played in a DVD player, come out smelling like a pizza, AdAge.com reports. As the movie plays, the customer is apparently none the wiser. But when the movie is over and the customer hits eject, a pizzalike odor wafts into the room.

A special thermal ink on the DVD reacts to the heat of the DVD player, not only releasing the odor but also causing a picture of a pizza to appear on top of the disc. A message reads: "Did you enjoy the movie? The next one will be even better with a hot and delicious Domino's Pizza." In the pizza business, subtlety gets you nowhere.

While streaming is all the rage in the United States, AdAge.com reports discs are far more popular in Brazil.

In this age of streaming video, the idea might seem a bit anachronistic. However, "in Brazil streaming services like Netflix and iTunes are relatively new, and for people with good social conditions," said ArtPlan art director Diogo Barbosa. "Also our broadband connection isn't as fast as that used in the U.S., and because of that we still have video rental stores in your neighborhoods."

This is the latest in a series of unusual marketing moves in Brazil. Last week, we reported about Huggies Brazil testing a Twitter-enabled diaper accessory. If your kid pees, you get an alert on Twitter (yay?). And last month, Budweiser Brazil revealed that it is testing a Facebook-enabled glass called a "Buddy Cup." When two Buddy Cup-holding drinkers toast each other by clinking their glasses, they become Facebook friends.

Hi, Carolyn: Should I be worried that my wife and I have had no sex for literally years? I am guessing it is at least three years. Not even heavy make-out sessions. The no-sex thing just happened over time. We have both gained some weight but we are not obese — we could both lose 20 or 30 pounds. Is this normal or should we seek help? J.: Should I be

The New York socialite, 71, is currently facing charges for allegedly attacking her 49-year-old boyfriend with scissors at her Trump World Tower Apartment in New York City. For one — and perhaps the most obvious to those unacquainted with Wildenstein’s personal life — there is her face, which has undergone so many plastic surgeries that it’s taken on a kind of feline quality, leading Wildenstein to be derided “Catwoman” in certain circles. Wildenstein’s surgery journey started with an eye lift during the first year she was married to Alec Wildenstein, a French-born, American-raised art dealer, racehorse owner and businessmen heir to a billion-dollar fortune.

    • Victoria's Secret Fires Manager Who Kicked Black Women Out Of The Store

“Move fast, better yet, move quicker.” It was rap legend Snoop Dogg who uttered the words that sound like they very well could have been the impetus to Victoria’s Secret’s response to the story we reported yesterday. Yesterday, we reported about Kimberly Houzah who recorded an emotional Facebook Live video detailing a racist incident in a VS store in Oxford, Alabama. Houzah and another Black woman were put out of the store after another Black woman was caught stealing. The manager at the store didn’t search the ladies’ bags and she didn’t give a reason for asking them to leave. It was clearly racially motivated. After the incident, Victoria’s Secret posted this statement on her Facebook page.

For example, right now two Democratic electoral college members are trying to sway Republican members to change their votes in what is being referred to as a "hail Mary" move. Recalling what led to his initial prediction about the election's outcome, Moore said, "I've never
