Claim Check: Lint Lizard

Consumer Reports
Lint Lizard
Can a $10 "magic wand" make clothes dryer lint disappear?

The claim. “It’s like a magic wand!” says the website for Lint Lizard, a clear, flexible tube designed to suck up dryer lint, which can cause a fire if too much accumulates. You thread one end of the tube through the dryer’s lint-trap opening and attach the other end to your vacuum cleaner. Lint Lizard cost us $10.99 plus shipping.

The check. In one dryer, we collected and weighed the lint removed by each of three methods we tried in succession. First we took apart ductwork and removed lint by reaching into nooks and crannies with our hands. Then we used a vacuum cleaner and crevice tool. Then we used the Lint Lizard. In a second dryer, we simply compared the amount of lint collected by a vacuum cleaner plus crevice tool with the haul collected by Lint Lizard.

MORE AT COnsumer Reports

Bottom line. It’s almost like a magic wand!

Our reaching hands removed 8 grams of lint; a vacuum cleaner and crevice tool managed to suck up another 4 grams. And the Lint Lizard? Another 15 grams. In the second dryer, a crevice tool and vacuum cleaner removed just 0.3 grams of lint, after which Lint Lizard gulped 52 grams.

Drawbacks: The Lizard’s sharply angled tip and curved hose made it miss a bit of lint in some nooks and on some surfaces, and it may not fit into very narrow openings in some dryers. Its sharp tip could also harm plastic ductwork (but it’s best to have metal dryer ducts).

    • 'Country Over Party': Dershowitz to Leave Dems If Ellison Elected DNC Chair

Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz, a high-profile Democrat for decades, said in an op-ed published Friday that he will leave the party if Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) is elected chairman this weekend. "My loyalty to my country and my principles and my heritage exceeds any loyalty to my party," Dershowitz, who supported Hillary Clinton in 2016, wrote in "The Hill" newspaper. Dershowitz recounted Ellison's history of controversial statements and actions many deemed anti-Semitic, including the congressman's history with Louis Farrakhan's "Nation of Islam" movement. "A prominent lawyer ... told me that while he was a law student, Ellison approached her and said he could not respect her because she was a Jew and because she was a woman who should not be at a law school," Dershowitz claims in the column.

    • ‘Dance Moms’ Abby Lee Miller Faces Jail With New Final Sentencing Date In Fraud Case

EXCLUSIVE: With the feds pushing for Abby Lee Miller to get 2 ½ years behind bars for fraud, the Dance Moms host today learned she will have just under two-weeks more of assured freedom. Two days after Miller’s final sentencing hearing of February 24 was suddenly yanked off the court calendar at the request of the government, a federal judge in Pittsburgh this morning set March 8 as the new date on which the high volume host could learn if her fate is prison or probation. If Miller’s attorneys need more time to argue their side of the story for their guilty pleading client or  further deliberations are required, a further hearing is also penciled for March 9 at 10 AM, “if necessary,” wrote Chief Judge Joy Flowers Conti. While undoubtedly anxious about the outcome , Miller will at least be tanned and likely somewhat rested for the early March sessions.
