When you're at the movies...

Winner: Order a small-size bag (440 calories) and skip the butter. Share it with your movie buddy for a completely reasonable treat. Loser: Avoid butter flavoring!

A small-size buttered bag has nearly 700 calories; a large packs 1,500 calories and two days’ worth of fat: 130 grams!

When you're on the sofa...

Winner:
Look for 94 percent fat-free microwave popcorn, like Orville Redenbacher’s Smart Pop!—only 240 calories for a whole bag. Want portion control? Look for 100-calorie minis.

Loser: Beware of pre-popped snack bags, which can easily have 200 calories and 10 grams of fat in just two cups. So if you’re the type who likes to snack straight through to the credits, this would be a nutritional horror show.

When you want something sweet...

Winner: You could eat a big bowl— 5 cups!—of Jolly Time Healthy Pop Caramel Apple popcorn for a smart 110 calories and 2 grams of fat. Caramel popcorn. Need I say more?

    • Dear Abby: Mother-in-law pops in without warning

DEAR ABBY: My mother-in-law has begun doing the “pop-in.” My husband passive-aggressively hinted that he wished he had known she was coming over. Her response was, “I’m your mother; I don’t need to let you know when I’m coming over.” I regard this as total disrespect. She has done this plenty of times — including popping in when I was having a dinner with my parents and children, which made her mad because she and my father-in-law hadn’t been invited. She did the pop-in again last week. My husband, four children and I were about to sit down to a family dinner when she rang the doorbell. I didn’t have enough food for her and my father-in-law, which made us all uncomfortable. She made a sarcastic

When Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz welcomed a son into the world, so did the characters they played on I Love Lucy. Lucy Ricardo gave birth to "Little Ricky" in season two. But real-life Lucy and Desi didn't want their baby on screen for obvious reasons, so they cast a wide net in search of a set of similar-looking twins. (Having two children alternate for one role helps shows adhere to child-labor laws that limit camera time for the industry's youngest actors.) Desi Arnaz chose15-month-old Joe and Mike Mayer based on a photo he'd seen of them at a Twins Club picnic, where their mother was president, the Idaho-Press Tribune reports. Ever heard the one about a college football coach who pulled the scholarship offer to a high school player who was committed to join his program? I know you have, and the punchline isn’t funny. The joke is always on the player. It’s happening so often, in fact, that something should be done to make these schools honor scholarship obligations even when new coaches are hired. The schools are leaving kids in the lurch and often with only a few weeks until National Signing Day. This time, D.J. Charles of Orlando Dr. Phillips is scrambling to find another college option. Former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton has spoken out in defence of Barron Trump, the US president's youngest son, after trolls targeted him with cruel memes online during the inauguration.  In a Facebook post Chelsea, who spent much of her teenage years in the spotlight while her dad Bill Clinton was president, said the 10-year-old "deserves the chance every child does-to be a kid".  But she also turned political: "Standing up for every kid also means opposing POTUS policies that hurt kids". Criticism of Barron's facial expressions and posture during the inauguration was widespread on social media, with people mocking him and calling him out for looking bored.  A Saturday Night Live writer even tweeted: "Barron will be this country's first homeschool shooter". The tweet was later deleted.  People on Facebook praised Chelsea for defending Barron while also expressing her political ideas:  BONUS: Donald Trump's inauguration address included a Bane quote ›
