When you're at the movies...

Winner: Order a small-size bag (440 calories) and skip the butter. Share it with your movie buddy for a completely reasonable treat. Loser: Avoid butter flavoring!

A small-size buttered bag has nearly 700 calories; a large packs 1,500 calories and two days’ worth of fat: 130 grams!

When you're on the sofa...

Look for 94 percent fat-free microwave popcorn, like Orville Redenbacher’s Smart Pop!—only 240 calories for a whole bag. Want portion control? Look for 100-calorie minis.

Loser: Beware of pre-popped snack bags, which can easily have 200 calories and 10 grams of fat in just two cups. So if you’re the type who likes to snack straight through to the credits, this would be a nutritional horror show.

When you want something sweet...

Winner: You could eat a big bowl— 5 cups!—of Jolly Time Healthy Pop Caramel Apple popcorn for a smart 110 calories and 2 grams of fat. Caramel popcorn. Need I say more?

Loser: Candied varieties like Crunch ’n Munch Buttery Toffee Popcorn pack about 150 calories and 6 grams of fat in each tiny 2/3-cup serving—and, c’mon, who can really stick to a measly handful of the stuff?
