Before You Buy

Before You Buy

Great prices are tempting, but your vision comes first. Follow these guidelines:

  • Use a current prescription (not more than one year old).

  • At your next eye appointment, have your doctor write your pupillary distance on the Rx. If your current Rx lacks a PD measurement, eyeglasses sites offer guidance; enlist a helper.

  • Want progressives (no-line multifocals)? See an optician. In our tests, progressive prescriptions were filled correctly, technically speaking — yet some testers couldn't see well with them.

    • Michael Moore’s Prediction for Trump’s Impeachment Will Depress a Lot of People

Michael Moore, a political prophet for our modern times, loves to predict things about Donald Trump. He thinks the new U.S. President is going to get everyone killed; he believes Trump will absolutely build a border wall and ban all Muslims. (Lest we forget, Moore also wrote a prescient essay that predicted Trump would win.) Anyhow, Moore is back on the offensive and predicting another pressing matter on the minds of many citizens, specifically, when will Trump get impeached and kicked out of the White House for good? For those looking for an optimistic answer, you’re not going to love his thoughts. “I would say some time in the middle of his second term,” he explained at a Tribeca Film Festival

    • I Let My Daughter Transition at 4 Years Old — And Have Zero Regrets Today

Kai did not choose this haircut, but she put on a smile anyway. By the time Kai was 3 1/2 years old, I couldn't ignore it anymore. She was verbalizing that she was a girl at least six times a day. Everything was: "I'm a princess" and "I'm a girl." Every time she'd say something like that, I'd get down on her level and firmly say, "No, you're a boy." It never worked. She would correct me by waiting until I was in the middle of something and unable to chase her around, then run into the room and yell, "I'm a girl!" and run out again. I did everything I could think of to cut off that kind of talk. There were time-outs, so many time-outs. There were spankings and yelling matches and endless prayers.

Beijing has honored him with a statue, museum, stamp and play. But no longer with a contract. The Beijing Ducks agreed to terminate their pact with Stephon Marbury this weekend, making the 40-year-old former Knick and Net a free agent. Marbury had one more year left on his deal — after which he said he would retire — but disagreements about his role and salary caused the rift. Marbury, who resuscitated his basketball career in the Chinese Basketball Association after falling out of the NBA in 2009, released a statement to his legions of overseas fans, saying he always will be a “Beijinger” and thanking them for giving him a “second life.” Marbury, from Coney Island and a fixture on very bad Knicks

    • District attorney: Aaron Hernandez left multiple suicide notes in jail cell

In the hours after Aaron Hernandez committed suicide Wednesday , authorities in Massachusetts said that the former Patriots tight end didn't leave any type of note before killing himself. However, after further investigation, it turns out that's not the case.  Worcester County district attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. revealed this week that Hernandez actually left three suicide notes and a bible in the prison cell where he was found dead.  In a statement, Early also noted that Hernandez's death at the Souza-Baranowski Correction Center had officially been ruled a suicide and that the cause of death was asphyxia by hanging.  Hernandez's lawyer, Jose Baez, and former agent, Brian Murphy, had both

    • Australia, New Zealand hit back at North Korea threat

Australia and New Zealand stiffened their rhetoric against North Korea Sunday after the isolated state threatened Canberra with a nuclear strike, urging it to think twice before "blindly and zealously toeing the US line". The move comes as US Vice President Mike Pence wraps up an Asia tour, which has included visits to South Korea, Japan and Australia partly to reassure allies amid fears that Pyongyang may be readying for a sixth nuclear test. "If Australia persists in following the US' moves to isolate and stifle North Korea... this will be a suicidal act," a North Korean foreign ministry spokesman said after Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop called the hermit state a "serious threat".
