    • A Massive Lake Of Molten Carbon The Size Of Mexico Was Just Discovered Under The US

A recent scientific discovery has drastically changed our view of the global carbon cycle and identified a new significant risk. Researchers have discovered a giant lake or reservoir made up of molten carbon sitting below the western US. The molten carbon (primarily in the form of carbonate) reservoir could drastically and immediately change the global climate for over a decade. Thankfully there is little risk in the near future of this happening. The carbon sits 217 miles beneath the surface of the Earth in the upper mantle and has no immediate pathway to the surface. In total the lake covers approximately 700,000 square miles, approximately the size of Mexico. This has redefined how much carbon

Two days before the April 19th suicide of Aaron Hernandez, the former star New England Patriots tight end who had been serving a life sentence for the murder of his friend Odin Lloyd, the investigative journalist Michele McPhee appeared on a Boston sports radio show. It was “Marathon Monday” in Boston. McPhee, an ABC News producer, formerly a New York Daily News bureau chief, and an author of true-crime books, had been invited on WEEI’s “The Kirk & Callahan Show” to talk about her new book, “Maximum Harm,” which investigates the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Hernandez had just been acquitted of murder the previous Friday, in a separate case. But McPhee’s friends Kirk Minihane and Gerry Callahan

    • ‘It was bad’: Shark attacks woman in waters just off popular California beach

A shark attacked a woman who was wading in the waters off a popular North San Diego County beach Saturday evening. According to multiple reports, the attack happened just after 6 p.m. PDT in a surf spot known as Church near San Onofre Beach along the Camp Pendleton base. The woman, whose identity was not revealed, was wading in the water when she was bitten, park aide Travis Lara told the Orange County Register. The woman was airlifted to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune, and her condition was unknown. The woman was bitten on her “glute and down her thigh,” Lara said. She was one of four, two of whom were on surfboards, in the area during the attack.

    • Hubble just delivered one of the most gorgeous space photos ever

The past few weeks have been jam-packed with stunning imagery from Saturn, delivered courtesy of the Cassini spacecraft. Now, almost as if to say "Hey, remember me?", NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has grabbed our attention with what is almost certainly one of the most spectacular photos it's ever managed to capture. The photo, which was released this week, has a whole lot going on, including some tricky perspective work that, as NASA points out, really messes up the scale of everything you're seeing. The photo you see above — available in full resolution here — shows a couple of interesting celestial sights. For starters, the colorful collection of lights on the right is a galaxy called NGC 7250 which NASA notes is extremely active forming stars and playing host to supernovas. The galaxy is made up of billions of stars, and is located over 45 million light years away, so we're only seeing a tiny glimpse of what it has to offer. The ultra-bright star to the left of the galaxy is named TYC 3203-450-1, located in a constellation called Lacerta, which means "The Lizard." It's not a particularly notable star and researchers haven't spent a whole lot of time studying it thus far, but because of its distance from Earth — roughly 1/1,000,000 the distance of the galaxy in the photo — it appears to be a much more dominating force in the sky. NASA even notes that, if the two were photographed at similar distances from our planet, we probably wouldn't even be able to spot the star.

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Commenting on Donald Trump’s first hundred days in office, Vice-President Mike Pence told Fox News on Sunday, “To tell you the truth, I really thought I’d be President by now.” “When I agreed to run on the ticket with him, I said to myself, ‘Mike, after he’s been in the White House for a few weeks, he’ll be a total train wreck and you’ll be able to slide into the big-boy chair,’ ” Pence said. “I never in a million years thought he’d last a hundred days. My best guess was thirty.” The former Indiana governor said that, with such seemingly fatal missteps as Trump’s failed health-care plan and travel bans, as well as any number of unhinged outbursts, “It feels like
