LBD with a twist

Jason Wu's new contemporary line, Miss Wu, is finally on Nordstrom.com and available for purchase, ladies!

To celebrate, I caught up with the designer himself to chat about the collection and left with a few style tips I had to share.

Choose an LBD with a twist:
"It's the quintessential little black dress every girl needs to have in their closet," says Wu, "but it has a draping detail in the front and it’s a cotton material, so it’s not too warm and isn't overly dressy."

Plus, the hint of lace separates it from the usual LBD lot.

Channel a modern day version of your style icon:
"Marianne Faithfull was a huge inspiration while creating this collection," says Wu.

"One of the key pieces of the collection is a cashmere sweater with lace detail, which is very quintessentially Jason Wu. That idea translated nicely to Miss Wu when paired with this little A-line skirt," which Wu says "is the perfect length that looks good on just about any body type."

Suggests the designer, "this is a really good 'walking around in the city' outfit. It’s good for lunch. It can take you from the morning to the early evening. It’s great for an early dinner kind of a thing."

Add amped up staples to your wardrobe

Add amped up staples to your wardrobe:
"In this case, [the top] is a dressier take on the sweater. This one is more of a pullover. The color really brightens up any outfit and can be worn with a pair of jeans or with a mixed print like this," advises Wu.

Rethink what you consider "ladylike"

Rethink what you consider "ladylike":
"While the silhouette of the skirt still gives this girl a lot of femininity, the leather material also gives her a little edge," says Wu.

"I felt like the contemporary market was mostly black and white and much edgier clothes, and I felt like Miss Wu had a
place there and could bring somewhat of a more girlier and feminine aspect. I thought it was a nice addition to what is in the market right now,"says the designer.

"This is an everyday work outfit or with gold accessories, fancy shoes and a clutch she can do casual cocktails or a gallery opening."

Never settle for average outerwear

Never settle for average outerwear:
As you can see, this trench coat is anything but basic.

"This is something, that girls are going to want to live in and go back to all the time, year after year," says Wu.

"It’s a little fancier than your run-of-the-mill trench. I imagine this to be the coat that whenever it starts getting cold, she looks forward to getting out of the back of the closet and she wants to wear all the time and it always looks good."

Miss Wu Belted Cotton Trench Coat, $$595.

    • This one tweet explains that truly bizarre Oscars Best Picture mixup perfectly

In what is certainly the weirdest moment in Oscars history, the incorrect Best Picture winner was announced on stage to finish off the 89th Academy Awards. Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway first announced La La Land as the big winner of the night. The cast and crew walked onstage and began to make their speeches, only to be stopped halfway through — the correct winner was actually Moonlight. Comedian Jackie Jennings quickly pointed out a perfect explanation for the bizarre mistake. WAIT BUT THIS IS ACTUALLY THE REAL END OF LA LA LAND AND ITS GREAT #Oscars — Jackie Jennings (@ohhijackie) February 27, 2017 La La Land' s depressing dream sequence finale was oddly similar to the ending of the Oscars. The pre-Oscars Red Carpet affair has, over the years, developed into a prime spot for studios and companies to air new TV spots, trailers and commercials. Before the 89th annual Academy Awards kicked off on Sunday, Disney aired a commercial for its upcoming Avatar World theme park, featuring commentary from Avatar director James Cameron. The commercial showed off parts of the park, including fully functional, animatronic creatures from Avatar. One has to imagine the attempt was to show off how futuristic and technologically advanced the section of the park is, but the entire ad came off as far too creepy. The commercial is only 30-seconds in length, but

    • Hmm, maybe this is why Trump doesn't want to attend the White House Correspondents' Dinner

On Saturday, Donald Trump made history as only the third president to bow out of the White House Correspondents' Dinner. And while this has much to do with Trump's ever-worsening battle with the press and his constant struggle to book talent, it's also worth remembering that, to be frank, Trump probably has another reason for ditching: He usually gets clobbered at these things. So, in the interest of, uh, elucidation, please enjoy these videos of Trump getting roasted at the 2011 and 2016 White House Correspondents' Dinner. Better yet, enjoy Trump's mirthless reactions. They're uncomfortable to watch, but extremely worth it.
