Hot lip trends for spring 2013

Hot lip trends for spring

Counting down the days til spring? I sure am. But even when the days and nights are chilly, it doesn’t stop me from rocking some spring lip color inspirations.

I’ve hunted down awesome lip products for spring, breaking them down by color trends. Spring looks like it is full of classy coral and sizzling bold bright looks. Excited yet?

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in Corail Intuitive

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in Corail Intuitive

Crazy for Coral:

Yves Saint Laurent – Rouge Volupte Shine in Corail Intuitive, and Coral Incandescent. $34,

I'm kicking this list off with the Cadillac of lipsticks; YSL. Owning only one of these will make you feel like an instant celeb, and add a little bit of weight to your handbag.

Rouge Volupte Shine

Rouge Volupte Shine

These luxurious lipsticks are something worth putting money into your “Lipstick Jar” savings. Two new colors for the season, Corail Intuitive (a soft shimmering peachy-coral) and Coral Incandescent (a bright, spicy coral) have emerged and they’re hard to pass up. The comfortable feel and satin shine from this product will definitely impress.

Tarte Pure Performance 12- hour lipstick – Coral

Tarte Pure Performance 12- hour lipstick – Coral

Tarte Glamazon Pure Performance 12- hour lipstick – Coral, $26,

I have to thank Tarte for creating quality natural products. This 12-hour wear lipstick is without parabens (do research on what this means for you) which is something I tend to look out for when choosing cosmetic products. This playful shade of pink-coral will perk up any look and is one of those shades that looks just right on all skin tones.

Stila Color Balm Lipstick

Stila Color Balm Lipstick

Bold and Bright:

Stila Color Balm Lipstick - Betsey , $22,

Bold lips with a nude face (no blush, no eyeshadow) were seen at Giles Deacon during Fashion week last year for Spring 2013. You hardly need anything more when you’re sporting bright lips, they’ll do all the work.

This creamy fuchsia color from Stila is loaded with full pigmented color but adds the softness of a lip balm with a glossy finish. (Bonus: No parabens!)

Sephora Collection Color Lip Last - #11 Forever Fuchsia

Sephora Collection Color Lip Last - #11 Forever Fuchsia

Sephora Collection Color Lip Last - #11 Forever Fuchia , $12,

For those who prefer a long-wear color (my lip color bleeds with brighter shades) the Sephora Collection has a great collection of long-lasting shades with 10-hour wear.

Rock this fuchsia hot pink all day and night with some fierce false lashes for an unforgettable face.

Buxom Full Bodied Lipstick

Wine barrel o’ fun :

New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 saw red and wine defined lips at Jason Wu, with models sporting fuller brows and very minimal eye makeup.

Buxom Full Bodied Lipstick – Menace, $22,

This rich wine shade with flecks of gold also serves as a lip-plumper (no tingle!) to give your pout that extra oomph! With coconut oil and vitamins C and E, this lipstick also will moisturize and protect your lips.

Bite Beauty High Pigment Matte Pencil in Bramble

Bite Beauty High Pigment Matte Pencil in Bramble

Chubby lip pencils are very trendy and will be the hottest makeup must-have for spring.

Bite Beauty High Pigment Matte Pencil in Bramble, $24,

This high pigment matte pencil by Bite Beauty is the perfect shade of deep wine that also offers antiaging benefits; this pencil contains the same amount of resveratrol than 5 glasses of red wine, which means this pencil was made to combat aging skin. Made with food-grade ingredients, this pencil is good enough to take a “bite” out of.

Soap & Glory – Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Nudist

Soap & Glory – Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Nudist

In the nude:

We all need an everyday wearable lip color for the office, quick runs to the store, meeting your boyfriend’s parents for the first time, you catch my drift?

As I stated above, these chubby lip pencils are all the rage, and I personally picked this item as the “stays in my purse” go-to lip product.

Soap & Glory – Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Nudist, $16 .. with vanilla flavor! Very yummy.

The Soap & Glory gloss stick, Nudist, is a universally flattering natural pink/beige shade with flecks of silvery sparkle.

Pastel Pop Jumbo Glossy Lip Pencil in Orange

Pastel Pop Jumbo Glossy Lip Pencil in Orange

Orange you glad Spring is almost here?

Orange, poppy lip color is huge this spring. Seen at London and New York Fashion Week, the look is satin or matte lip color with very minimal eyeshadow and blush. The lips should be the standout feature of the face.

Sephora Collection – Pastel Pop Jumbo Glossy Lip Pencil in Orange, $10

This jumbo pencil from Sephora can be used on the lips and cheeks for an all-over look, with a feel of a balm with the look of a gloss.

NARS Heat Wave

NARS Heat Wave

NARS – Heat Wave, $26

NARS brings us the semi-matte orange-red lip look that is quite the sizzling number.

This long-lasting bold color features a full-pigmented look, so this is not for the faint of heart.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture – Vernis A Levres Glossy Stain

YSL Rouge Pur Couture – Vernis A Levres Glossy Stain

Just peachy !

Those who are a little intimidated by the bold orange look can find safety with peach. Peach makes a great daytime color and looks great on just about all skin tones.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture – Vernis A Levres Glossy Stain,27 Peche Cerra-Cola, $34

This new and revolutionary “glossy-stain” by YSL creates a glossy look but wears like a stain.

Napoleon Perdis - Luminous Lip Veil Gloss, Pretty in Peach

Napoleon Perdis - Luminous Lip Veil Gloss, Pretty in Peach

There are gals who just can’t live without gloss, so for the gloss fans, there is Napoleon Perdis - Luminous Lip Veil Gloss, Pretty in Peach,$23

I was a fan of Napoleon’s “Set” cosmetics line that was in Target stores, but now that it looks to be gone from the stores, I set my sights on his designer name brand.

The lip gloss is the consistency of a liquid lipstick with vitamin E and C to help nourish lips.

Kevyn Aucoin matte lip color in Eternal

Kevyn Aucoin matte lip color in Eternal

Ravishing red

We saw matte red lips at the Prada show, and I saved this for last since I am not sure how daring everyone is willing to be this spring. I normally apply hot red lips at night with only a black liquid liner and soft black lashes, minimal blush. The look on the runway was absolutely no makeup (foundation was applied to perfect the complexion), but with a bold, lined red lip. The look is very defined, refined and dramatic.

This matte lip color from Kevyn Aucoin is brand new, and can be pre-ordered at Neiman Marcus. This shade of red is classic, but one of the best features is the formula which contains ingredients that guarantee to minimize wrinkles over time. Does this mean we have to wear it 24/7? Might be a good excuse!

Pre-order Kevyn Aucoin matte lip color in Eternal. Shipping no later than 3/22, $32.

MAC Russian Red

MAC Russian Red

MAC Cosmetics is known for their wide array of lipstick colors and finish choices. This infamous color, Russian Red, has been spotted on countless celebs, including Gwen Stefani, Scarlett Johansson, Kim Kardashian and Christina Aguilera.

Last week, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced 19 nominees for its class of 2017. Five of these nominees will be inducted into the Hall. I am certain many of the Hall’s members and voters mean well, and I have heard nice things about their museum (which I have not visited). But the Hall, as it exists now, is so deeply flawed that it risks not only having a lack of credibility, but also a lack of validity. In other words, it doesn’t just make mistakes; the mistakes seem to be endemic, built into the fabric of the organization. And you know what? Rock ’n roll deserves better. This question has reportedly left the Queen's two sons, Princes Charles and Andrew, at loggerheads. It also requested that Beatrice, 28, and Eugenie, 26, be granted better accommodation at Kensington Palace – because they are currently tolerating "small" apartments at St James' Palace. The Queen is said to have been "stunned" by her son's proposition and left it to her private secretary Christopher Geidt to sort out.

    • Hillary Clinton email saga continues as 33,000 erased emails may not be 'missing' after all

Hillary Clinton just can’t seem to catch a break with her her ongoing email woes. While the consensus was that Clinton’s 33,000 notoriously ‘missing’ emails were permanently destroyed and beyond recovery, newly released FBI notes strongly suggest this might not be the case after all, the NY Post reports. In a May interview with the FBI, an anonymous executive from Platte River Networks (PRN) – the Denver contractor responsible for maintaining Clinton’s private server – revealed that an underling failed to purge all of Clinton’s subpoenaed emails, deleting only the ones he stored in a data file he used to transfer emails to the assistants of the presidential candidate. According to the PRN executive, the democrat’s tech specialist Paul Combetta “created a ‘vehicle’ to transfer email files from the live mailboxes of [Clinton Executive Services Corp.] email accounts.

As if dealing with Severus Snape's death and his sad story wasn't tragic enough, a new revelation about the character has come to light – and it's heartbreaking. A serious Harry Potter fan has developed a new theory around Snape's opening line in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. In the film, Snape, played by the late Alan Rickman, asks Harry, 'Tell me, what would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?' While the complexity behind the Potions question went completely over our heads, it turns out that it was very important to the story. The fan, who goes by the name tomhiddles, decoded the meaning behind the words and was shocked at what it really meant.

    • Sexy & Gray: 13 Women Who Prove That One Does Not Negate the Other (13 photos)

Sophie Fontanel — Parisian Instagram star, fashion journalist, and author of The Art of Sleeping Alone — has a thing or two to say about going gray. “Accept yourself and you will see a big change,” she tells Vogue in an Oct. 24 interview focused largely on her decision to stop coloring her hair. Fontanel, who is 54 and has more than 87,000 Instagram followers , takes Vogue readers through her own journey of acceptance that came after what she calls “living a lie” by never letting her roots show. After achieving literary fame in her 50s, she explains, she began noticing beautiful gray-haired women seemingly everywhere she went. She stopped one such woman in Los Angeles. “I was asking, ‘is it easy to be like you are?’ She said, ‘Yes. You know, before I was much more invisible and now I'm really someone strange. Everyone notices me,'” Fontanel recounts. “Life is full of signs. Two months later I was in Rome. There was a second one. Then I was in St-Tropez at a café and there was another woman with long white hair, very chic, in Valentino. She was very sexy. I [said], ‘OK, you're the third woman I've noticed, so tell me, does it take courage to get your hair?’ And she said, ‘No. It takes curiosity.'” The writer was emboldened by these other women, and, after some thought and convincing, decided to let her own locks go natural — but gradually, by growing her roots out slowly, and documenting the transformation on Instagram. Today, she says, she’s “happier than ever.” Click through the slide show above to take in the splendor of Fontanel and a dozen other empowered, curious, and sexy silver-haired women.
