Thinking about buying an ebook reader for your Valentine?
Pick up a Kobo Mini for $59.99 – instead of the usually $79.99 price – until Thursday, February 14, at Best Buy.
Billed as the world's smallest and lightest full-featured ebook reader, the Kobo Mini features a 5-inch glare-free touchscreen, weighs just 4.73 ounces (134 grams) and loads pages quickly as you flick through digital books, magazines and newspapers.
Though it doesn’t have expandable memory, the 2-gigabytes of built-in storage is enough for about 1,000 ebooks -- more than enough for most.
As with most other ebook readers, this Wi-Fi enabled ebook reader lets you tweak the font size and style, plus it includes an integrated dictionary and lasts up to a month on a single charge (with Wi-Fi turned off).
Not only is the Kobo Mini $20 off the regular price, this purse- and pocket-sized product is also $10 cheaper than least-expensive Kindle, which lacks a touchscreen and contains ads to help offset the costs of the device.
Plus, unlike the Kindle line, Kobo ebook readers – including the Mini – allow you borrow books from your local library. Kobo bookstore's contains 3 million titles, says the company – one-third of which are free to download and read.
Supported book files include EPUB, PDF and MOBI; CBZ and CBR for comic books; JPEG, GIF, PNG and TIFF files for photos; and TXT, HTML, XHTML and RTF for text files.
While the Kobo Mini comes in black and white, it seems only the white one is what’s available -- after calling numerous Best Buy locations across the country. Both the black and white Kobo Mini ereaders support optional back covers, which are available in multiple colors -- including ruby, purple and teal.
This Kobo Mini sale is available online and in-store, but only until Valentine’s Day, says Best Buy.
