  • The (almost) Perfect BD Player

By Yahoo Shopping User  Nov 30, 2010

Pros: * Unique styling matches our décor. * Picture quality is amazing. * Network streaming works flawlessly from our Home Server. * Pandora and Netflix work very well. * Up-converts extremely well. * Fast load time. * Supports lots of file formats.... Cons: * The remote * Screen saver / power save feature * Searching for and playing music on a network Thank goodness I bought this before I saw the user reviews. I bought this in April 2010 so maybe Samsung had worked out the issues that had posted here. From the day I plugged it in it has performed perfectly. It did inform me that there was a firmware update so I downloaded it to a flash drive, plugged it in, and updated it (that’s the fastest and safest way to do it). Wi-Fi connected easily to my dual band router. I have it connected to the 5GHz band and it streams flawlessly. My wife loves the style, which helped me convince her we needed this. I was pretty impressed with Netflix streaming as I didn’t think the picture quality would be that good, but it was near HD quality. Pandora works great, didn’t try Blockbuster because their pricing is ridiculous. I was able to fairly easily connect the device to my home network and stream music and videos from my home server. The only issue I have is with the way it allows you to select music for playback; it’s tedious and not nearly as good or easy and it could be, though no worse than my Sony PS3. It’s not perfect though. I wish there was a way to turn off the screen saver. When listening to Pandora I want the music information always showing. I also wish there was a way to turn off the power save feature like on my Samsung LCD TV. If the BD player sits idle it will turn itself off; then you have to turn it back on an wait for it to connect to the wireless network, and then go through everything to reconnect to your server and re-select what you were listening to. Bad design that could easily be fixed with a firmware update. My other gripe is the remote control. This remote has terrible range. I have to ensure the remote is almost directly in front of the player to get it to accept a command. I have a Logitech Harmony that I will use with it. Normally I do a lot more research before I make a purchase like this. But because of the sale price, and the style, I made an impulse purchase. For the first time, I’m glad I did. Otherwise I would have never bought this based on the reviews. Read more Less

Great looks-might need regularly cleaning and care to prevent scratching-kids would beat up the finish in no time. A lot of set-up options, Used the on-line support to manually enter wireless connections - auto wouldn't work for netflix hook-up. Now ...need a new tv to enjoy the HD Read more Less

I was so excited when we initially go this BluRay player. All went well up until this last month. We've sent it in for service 2, have spent countless hours online with support... totally losing my faith in SAMSUNG... more like SAMSUCKS.
