Good Value for the money

I bought this Dell Inspiron about a year ago. I saw an ad in the paper. I called the first time to select a model and the customer service was pretty good. Since the basic model that I got was packed with 2.6Ghz, 256MB, CDRW 24X/DVD 32X, 30GB,(less than I expected)Windows XP with a card for wireless access, I went ahead and placed an order over the phone, it arrived quickly. It cost me around $700 after the rebate.
I was excited to open the package and they also sent me an additional laptop carry bag with it, which is pretty kewl. It’s not one of those inexpensive ones and lots of other software with it. The only problem with the software was that they bundled it with Corel Suite of products instead of Word etc. The other one is the bulkiness of the laptop, well it’s pretty heavy for a laptop . I think the higher end models of Dell are lightweight.
As for the performance, I would say it’s a good buy if you like to use the system for basic needs like surfing, word processing, watching movies or burning discs. The wireless card works well. Although there has been a problem with the battery, when I first started using the battery option, I used to use for a little over an hour, but now it gives about 30mins. The DVD player starts once you insert the DVD into the slot and no complaints there either . The software that was bundled with the DVD is region free, so I can play DVD’s of any region, I think the software is from Cyberlink. The CD-RW works well too, has Sonic RecordNow software. I haven’t had any problems with the touchpad, though the left button below it has loosened a bit.
The system came with a one year technical support warranty. I had a problem once when the system was infested with a virus. When I called their support desk, they were pretty helpful. Finally I had to use the system restore option. Even if this fails, they also have another option by Symantec which takes the laptop to the factory settings. But this was when I was back in the US. I don’t know how their service fares here in India. When I emailed them, they told me to fill in the international ownership transfer form available on their website.
To enjoy watching DVDS or listening to music, the speakers on any laptop aren't enough, so you need to spend some money on a good system. I would definitely consider it a best buy with very fewer problems. ...

While surfing through the CD collection at the temple library in the US, I came across this album. I decided to give it a try as it was produced by Pt.Ravi Shanker.
The listing of the tracks is as follows
1. Vandanaa Trayee 2. Omkaaraaya Namaha 3. Vedic Chanting 4. Asato Maa 5. Sahanaa Vavatu 6. Poornamadah 7. Gaayatri8. Mahaa Mrityunjaya 9. Veenaa-Murali 10. Geeta 11. Mangalam 12. Hari Om 13. Svara Mantra 14. VedicChanting 15. Prabhujee 16. Sarve Shaam
From the 16 tracks on this album, about 4 of them are individual compositions like tracks 9, 13, 15 etc. The CD leaflet gives a detailed descriptionof the album and also the chants are listed there wherea the cassette doesn’t give all the details.
All the chants are rendered beautifully especially the Gayatri mantra which is considered as the mother of all mantras. theGayatri mantra rendition on this album is really good.
The tracks from 3 to 8 are the ones that really stand out in this album. This album scores on the quality of the recording and the tone of the album. ...
