Fantastic show - rough recording
This is a really great Zappa show - the Mothers at their best! Unfortunately, the recording really isn't that great. But underneath that rough quality, these songs sound better than on the original albums. ... -

Good for a cheap comp of easy favorites
This is obviously aimed at casual fans of the Zappa legacy, boasting some pretty well-known favorites. But they also happen to be really great live versions of these gems, and the record has a nice smooth flow to it - not a bad starting point for a Zappa collection and always nice for an easy listen. ... -

Some memorable tracks, not Zappa's best
Of course, I'm sure everybody knows "Bobby Brown Goes Down", which is a great song, and it has some company on this record: "Baby Snakes", "Flakes" and the crude but catchy "Jewish Princess". Other than those gems, however, it's pretty uneventful, mostly filler material. Out of my entire Zappa catalogue, this one I pull out very rarely. ... -

One of the best!
This is definately one of Zappa/Mothers of Invention's best records, second to "We're Only In It For the Money". The last few tracks is when it really gets away from music and gets crazy, but it's still fun as hell, and the music before all that is amazing. Buy it! ... -

Poorly made film about a pretty amazing
Very, very cheesy film. It goes for lots of sentimentality, one scene after another, relentlessly and shamelessly. As one critic put it, it goes for the sentiment without really earning it. First off, we have seen Robin Williams in this role many, many times. He is the non-conformist fighting the institution with strange, new practices. He is a very likable actor, although I personally don't find his stand-up comedy all that funny (unfortunately, the film relies on it for laughs). Even then though, you probably saw most of the jokes in the trailer, they are few and not very hilarious.
The bad guys are evil, the good guys are sweeter than candy, no character really unfolds all that well. There were time when I liked it, but too many times when I was squirming, wanting to tell the director "Who do you think you're fooling?!?"
The true story behind it all is definately worth looking into and is really the only interesting or original thing about this movie. ... -

the band played on
A little commentary from Jello Biafra, and the musical stylings of the temporarily-formed "No WTO Combo" were rocking the protests against the World Trade Organization in Seattle last November. Aside from two new songs about the situation at hand, the band plays some really sweet covers of "Let's Lynch the Landlord" and "Full Metal Jackoff" - the LP comes with a nice book with a good intro to what the demonstrations were all about. ... -

The greatest political mock-country albu
This record is sarcastic as hell but it's great. In "Love me, I'm a Liberal" Jello sings as a 'reformed' radical left wing person who as 'matured' into a change-fearing democrat whos resorted to turning in an anarchist. Then he's singing his usual rant about "Nostalgia for an Age that Never Existed", "Plastic Jesus"...this stuff is classic! ...

Great special, horrible video release
1 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this review helpful This is the funniest, sweetest Christmas special ever made and the Muppets are at their best, but for some reason they decided to cut the special short by leaving out some very memorable scenes and songs on this video version. It's still wonderful, but it's not complete - try to get the full UK release. ...
