Nice-Not perfect!
95 of 96 Yahoo! Users found this review helpful I have only used this camera for a few days. The features and the 6X optical zoom sold me as my camera of choice.
As a professionally trained photographer, I used the same criteria that I used to select a 35MM camera. One that had enough features to give me creative and technical control, yet simple enough for my wife to use without pulling her hair our!
I liked the 6X optical zoom feature as most cameras in this price range had 3X optical zoom. I dont give a lot of credence to digital zooms because of how poorly they reder and image. Id rather have 6X optical zoom with no digital zoom than a camera with a 3X optical zoom and a 50X digital zoom because of image degradation. I like the manual feature in that I can at least get aperature control to a degree, though an electronic version of depth of field preview should be possible. I really like the slow synch on the flash to give me control of the lighting balance. The red eye reduction seems to work well.
The picture quality is very good. Good color, contrast and resolution. When I used the provided software and displayed my photos is Slide Show mode and the resulting images filled the whole 14.4 laptop display beautifully. 3.2 Mega Pixels seems to have sufficient resolution to very good quality 8X10 prints. If I need higher quality for larger enlargements, I will use my 35MM equipment.
The one feature I am not in love with yet, may be its worst feature for me and I believe should be a serious consideration before purchasing.
When I first attempted to take photos in modest indoor lighting, I had a hard time seeing the image, whether I was looking through the electronic viewfinder or at the LCD panel. I quickly found the adjustment to turn up the brightness on both displays, but the image was still poor. Though the images were fine I had a difficult time framing my subject in modest light, which I found frustrating. Because of this adjustment, the preview on the LCD was too bright and I ended up scrolling through the menu again to turn the brightness down in order to display the image correctly. Ill be having to use that adjustment frequently in changing light conditions or if I just want to preview my images in low light. Very inconvenient! This camera has a movie mode, but as every digital still camera on the market, I would never buy a digital still camera based on this feature as they dont compare to a digital video camera. This feature is only a convenience and I wont even consider it in the price of the camera. In fact Id rather the manufacturers leave this feature off altogether and and translate this into savings on the price of the camera. ...
