Freedom At Point Zero
Pros: jefferson starship rocks for the first time in a long time.
Cons: scifi drudge
one of my favorite songs is js's "jane". even the it sounds strangely similiar to toto's "hold the line" it is a great song. mickey thomas belts out the song they way balin would of..if he wasnt singing dreck like "hearts". freedom at point zero is better than the last js cd "earth". not by much though. paul has picked up the pace. the girl with the hungry eyes is a terrfic song as is "lighting rose". the title cut kicks ass. however when the starship steers toward the sears contributions they seem to get lost. even "rock music" has this bad journey vibe. ...

i got it
Pros: all the hits
Cons: missing some prime cuts
i spent the weekend listening to the cd. i wont purchase it as i already have everything here. its inclusion of some of the live material doesnt work well. i'd would of enjoyed the 12" of big love thamn the live "the dance". i would have enjoyed "farmer's daughter" than "go insane". id rather have the live version of "sara" than the edited tusk version. christine mcvie is underrepresented. "brown eyes", "over and over", "do you know" and "warm ways" are missing. still it is better than the "greatest hits" compliation of 88. of course there is no bob welch or danny kirwan on here which is criminal. this is supposed to be a "best of". ...

1 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this review helpful "say you will" is one of the better mac releases since buckingham and nicks joined the group. not as good as any album made during their halycon years (75-82) but light years better than tango. there are some great tracks here "illume", "steal your heart away" and "smile at you" come to mind. some of the familiar mac sound "thrown down", "bleed to love her" and "say you will". there is also some misfires "silver girl", "come", and "ed murrow..." and "running through the garden". the current single "peacekeeper" is a bold choice for a band primarily known for their love songs.
to the groups' credit, they continue to explore new muscial ideas which is great to hear. buckingham's guitar playing is amazing and the rythym section is tight. nicks' voice is strong yet vulnerable.
i am dissappointed there is no christine mcvie. if she was a voice of moderation within the band she is missed. at 18 songs, the cd would have been a classic if only it was shorter. ... -

an absolute stunner
this is one of the best albums of the 1990's. it works on so many different levels. this is one cd that i like to give as a gift when somebody's hurting. tracey thorn's vocals are amazing. lyrically the album carries such as wallop. what she conveys-- the resentment, the self-pity, the hope being in a decaying relationship. ben watt's production and playing perfectly suit her voice.
my favorites here are "the heart remains a child" and "single". i think everybody on the planet has emotionally been there on the former "the heart just sulks and it whines....." the latter carries the feeling of doubt after leaving very accurately "..a really big mistake". i also like the title cut, "flipside" and "mirrorball".
my only problem is song order. "before today" is an awkward track to open the album as "good cop bad cop " is to close it. i would of opened with "flipside" to give the album a kick off and closed with "mirrorball". but thats me. ... -

this one gets the bronze
things hadn't quite yet gelled for ABBA. "knowing me, knowing you" is probably the best pop song ever written. powerful, poignant. its is superb. "dancing queen" captures the quiet desperation of a night in a disco perfectly. "that's me" is new wave/dance music before its time. however from there it goes to decent pop "fernando", "when i kissed the teacher", "my love my life", "money money, money" and "why did it have to be me?". the rest is crap. the disposable "dum dum diddle". and god awful "tiger" and the title cut. it would take another two albums before abba hit their stride. ... -

Hotel Cailfornia
Pros: it is perfection
Cons: none
the "hotel california" cd rates as one of the finest cd's of all time. as a concept album or better yet a audio reflection of life as experienced by the band it is flawless. there is not a single misstep. whenever i listen to the cd it is from start to finish. i never skip over a single track. "wasted time" is probably one of my favorite songs of all time. "life in the fast lane", the title cut and "new kid in town" are still played on fm radio today. its my favorite eagles cd. ...
