One of the Best CDs ever made---period.
First of all, know that Teddy Riley was the KING of the New Jack Swing. All the CDs that did well from the late 80s to mid-90s seemed to have Teddy's influence. This CD is full of New Jack sounds and offers a little of everything. It combines Teddy's abilities with the great voices of the Brothers Hall (Aaron and Damion of course) and you have this killer CD. Pure Dance with "Her" and I Wanna get with you" (Better have bass on that stereo). Cool jams like Do Me Right (with Heavy D), Dog me Out, and Teddy's Jam 2. Mood music like The Future, Yearning for your love and Smile. And, of course pure intimacy with Let's Chill and Tease Me Tonight. I liked Guy until I bought this CD back in '90 and have been wowed ever since. This is truly a masterpiece. ... -

Wild mix of styles and songs
I was a huge fan of U.T.F.O. (still like to listen now and then), so I loved this record. I would personally give it 4.5 stars, but I wanted to take a more realistic approach to the traditional music lover. This record has one thing that few others could boast at its time---variety. Like the first U.T.F.O. record, the combination of the guys and Full Force really put together a unique product. No Educated Rapper this time, but you can hear him on the song "Pick up the Pace" which was in the movie "Krush Groove" and was on this record as well. (Yes I said "Krush Groove." Go rent it). This is definitely worth a listen because it was so much different than any other rap at the time. ... -

Diamond in the Rough
I saw the crappy rating this CD received at SamGoody.com, so I had to respond here. The songs he discounts, Bite-It, Lisa Lips, and Beats and Rhymes were outstanding for their time. Lisa Lips is upbeat with its use of electric guitar, Beats and Rhymes uses great keyboards and is fast-paced, and Bite-It did very well on the charts. So, I assume that their reviewer wasn't listening to rap in the mid-80's. The Full Force influence made this CD very unique. Then of course you have good ol' Roxanne, Roxanne; The Real Roxanne; and then Calling her a Crab (The response to Roxanne's disses). Almost it's own little soap opera if you listen to them in that order. Novelty, maybe, but quality? Absolutely. ...
Just the beginning of a great thing
1 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this review helpful The first Guy release was a groundbreaking CD, full of fresh concepts and raw talent. Teddy Riley's abilities and Aaron Hall's range were the big reasons why this first CD was such a success. "Groove Me" and "Teddy's Jam" set the stage for years to come. "I Like" was just an all around great jam. The best part about it is that this CD was probably a 4.7 out of 5 because it only got better with the release of "The Future" in 1990, a true 5.0. (Not to mention, they lost Gene Griffin, which let Teddy, Nasty Man, and Crazy Legs, do their own thing without restraint). ...
