10th Anniversary of Doctor Who
Pros: Reunion of the 1st 3 Doctors.
Cons: Once of A lifetime Meeting of the Original Doctors.
This was a celebration of Doctor Who's 10 years on television back in 1973. To celebrate the occassion, the series reunited William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton with then series regular Jon Pertwee.
The Time Lords having a rule against any Time Lord and their previous incarnations sharing the same space time continum at the same time. They are forced to break one of their rules due to a universal threat to them and the galaxy as a whole.
Not too give away the whole story, its great to see the interaction of the doctors and how both similar and different they are from each other. Sadly, William Hartnell passed away shortly after this storyarc aired.
It also was the prelude to the 5 Doctors 10 years later that reunited Troughton, Pertwee, and Tom Baker who ended a 7 year run back in 1981 joined his replacement Peter Davidson at that time in 1983.
The flaws are the special effects that was the product of that day. It still works.
This is for fans of Doctor Who and new fans who joined due to the new series. I highly recommend it. ... -

This CD Rocks!
Pros: One of the Best albums of 1999.
Cons: Wish Creed Was Still Together.
I disagree with the last 2 reviews. I listened to the entire album and love it. "Higher" still remains one of my favorite all time songs because it helped me get through dealing with the death of a loved one at the time. Hearing that song helped me heal from the loss.
"Arms Wide Open" is also a beautiful song because its about the birth of lead vocalist Scott Sapp's son. I cannot understand why after all these years some people are still hating on Creed. They wanted to show the world that there is more to rock and roll than sex and drugs that the music has recieved an unfair perception as being such that.
Whatever reason, I will not try to understand it. The previous reviewers have a right to their opinions. I love this cd and highly recommend it. ... -

Excellent Bio Of The Life of Ray Charles
Pros: Jamie Foxx's Best Work.
Cons: Nothing Negative To Say.
I saw a sneak preview of Ray when I watched a scene from the movie on the NAACP Image Awards on tv. I was impressed with Jamie Foxx in that scene. When I watched the film with my sister, I knew that it was going to be a classic.
The film is based on the book Brother Ray which is about Charles' life. I was also impressed with the performances of Regina King, Kerry Washington, Curtis Armstrong who played the late Ahmet Ertegun who discovered Charles and a lifelong friend.
The music is awesome and the performances. This film came out following the death of Charles and a tribute to him. If anyone thinks that the film doesn't deserve the hype and accolates, see it for yourself.
If you love a great story about a musical legend, its highly recommended. ... -

A Classic Hip Hop Album.
Pros: Great debut from EPMD
Cons: Nothing Negative To Say.
This album is the debut of one of hip hop's dynamic duo EPMD. Although this album debuted 20 years ago, it still is very funky and entertaining. Compared to the hip hop of today, this album has quality to it and does it without resorting to the garbage that permeates today's hip hop.
I would highly recommend this album to fans of 50 Cent, TI, and Little Jon who think that hip hop is about materialism, street reputations, and sexual references to women.
These guys are the REAL legends of hip hop, not these clowns who currently dominate the genre. ... -

Its Impact Is Still Felt Today.
Pros: The Greatest Mini-series of All Time.
Cons: They don't Show It Often.
I watched this mini-series as a kid and proud I watched it with my family. This series was a historical drama and presented the viewpoint of African Americans told in an nonstereotypical manner.
All I can say is that Roots should be required viewing because although it shows the shameful legacy of Slavery and Jim Crow and how it affects African Americans today.
I would watch the series on TV One and recommend it to anyone who hasn't watched it yet. Yes the violence is hard to watch, the difference between the violence you see in movies and in Roots is that the brutality actually happened.
If you don't watch it on TV One, rent it and support this drama that deserves to be seen. ... -

Jazz In Its Bare Roots.
Pros: Hearing the Piano Accoustically.
Cons: No Other Instrument Played.
I loved playing the piano since I took lessons during my teen years. I appreciate music and it helped me stay out of trouble. I didn't know what to make of Sample's latest cd when I first heard it. After hearing it 2x, I knew that this is a really great album.
Why? Sample decided to play the piano only which is what you will hear. How many artists today can do this? Not many. Sample has proven that he is not talented, a legend in the world of Jazz.
I am don't understand why Sample's cd hasn't recieved the attention it deserves. Tired of the mindless teenage crap you hear in music today? I highly recommend this artist who has proven that he isn't trendy, has staying ground musically. ... -

The Start of Something Big.
Pros: A Classic.
Cons: Nothing Negative To Say.
When this 12 book series debuted 20 years from DC comics, I was skeptical about the changes they were going to make in its universe. I had a friend at the time who not only read Marvel, DC too. I didn't follow the series until the 2nd issue.
DC followed through on their promise in changes to their universe. I do have the original series and still enjoy reading it. The artwork by George Perez is awesome and I am a fan of his artwork.
This series set the standard for other great classic mini series such as Watchmen, The Dark Knight Returns, Kingdom Come, Earth X, and Identity Crisis. This is a must for comic book fans and admirers. ... -

Happy Birthday DTTB
Pros: Excellent Collection of Great Songs.
Cons: Wished It Continued with More Great Tracks.
This cd marks the 10th anniversary of DTTB with a compliation of songs from the first 3 albums. A lot can happen in 10 years and the group has proven to remain musically consistent.
I listened to all 11 tracks nonstop while going out. At some point, I really was into the music and it was my favorite DTTB songs. Originally, I don't buy don't buy too many greatest hits cds. My worries vanished when I heard the entire cd.
I am looking forward to the new DTTB cd coming out soon. Until then, I will enjoy 10 years of groove and wishing Stewart Wade and the group 10 more years of great music. ... -

Great Introduction To a Gospel Legend.
Pros: Love The CD.
Cons: Should Have Been Sold Together With The Love Alive Series.
I listened to The Hawkins Family as a kid. I heard on this cd songs I haven't hear in a long time. "Oh Happy Day" is one of my all-time favorite gospel songs. I don't get tired of hearing it.
For those who want to know the origins of Contemporary Gospel that introduced Kirk Franklin, Take 6, and others, this is where it started. ...

A Fresh Take on Superman
Pros: Not the Typical Superman Story.
Cons: Story Should Have Been Longer.
Image your name is Clark Kent and heard the jokes all of your life due to your name. And on top of it, you just discovered you have superpowers and wear the costume? Only you know about it?
That is the theme of writer Kurt Busiek's 4 issue mini-series. The series setting is more of in the real world. There is none of any of the classic villians or heroes in this story. Superman is the only "real" and unique superhero since he debuted nearly 70 years ago in Action Comics #1.
Its not about the costume or powers, the story is more about a man who knows he is different finding a place in the world and embracing his uniqueness. Originally;I expected the typical Superman story, it is Busiek's everyman appeal that made the story stand out.
I have read his previous work Marvels that helped put him on the map. I do plan on reading his creator owned series Astro City.
If you are a fan of the hit NBC series "Heroes" and a Superman fan, I highly recommend this book to people if you love stories that are character driven and not just about the action, costumes, and powers. ...
