Perfect for everyday hiker to military use
Pros: MGRS, Adjustable light levels, fast fix
Cons: Small screen, monochrome, no real maps
I purchased this GPS nearly 10 years ago and it has done everything I needed it to do in many areas of the world. I is perfect for driving since it has a huge city database, it is perfect for hiking and great for military applications due to MGRS and compass features. It can use an external antenna in case you are in a sealed Armored vehicle or just want better satellite in heavy woods. The ability to plug into a DC port and computer USB/Serial is perfect to upload waypoints and routes via software not included with the unit. The draw backs include a slightly small screen, monochrome color which is not a real bad feature and not having terrian or road maps. I have never had any functional issues with it, when the temperatures get below 20F and it has been out all night, the screen becomes difficult to read. At that point, just place the unit into a pocket or shirt or inside a warm vehicle or building. I have had it on top of a armored vehicle in the middle of Kuwait during summer with no issues to the unit. I have never got sand inside the unit after living in the open desert for months, water does not affect it and I have never been able to get any major scratches on it due to a very touch screen. Overall, I know there are much better looking and performing units but none anywhere near this price and for a unit that I have brought to hell and back, I would not give it up for any reason. ...

Creative 40GB Touch
Pros: Great Battery, Great Sound, very good Size
Cons: Terrible customer service, poor HHD
I Purchased the Zen Touch in Canada in April of 2005 after returning from Iraq. The unit played great and never had any issues with the unit until the 12 month warranty was over. The main item to go was the Hard Disc Drive. The system frozen on me and would not leave the diagnostic screen. I tried re-formatting and reloading all the software to only get the "Bad Hard Drive" error over and over. I called the customer service would flat out told me since my warranty had expired that I was out of luck even thought I told them I would pay for a new hard disc drive. At that point the unit went into a drawer and I purchased a Video Ipod with a 60GB drive for much less than the creative. A year later I found a guy who stated he can fix it for me. I handed him the unit which I recharged overnight, he turned the unit on and received the bad hard drive error. At that point he dropped the unit onto a hard floor and handed it back to me. It is now working just like it came out of the box with all of my music on it. He stated there is many forums on the web that address the same error and how to fix it. I am pleased to have my Creative back now. I now use it for all my music and my Ipod for all my movies. I highly dislike Itunes but the new creative software is now worse than Itunes. ...
