Great Idea, Poor Execution
Pros: Interesting environment, Orwellian vision of the future
Cons: Painfully slow-moving and ultimately unsatisfying
This is a really nice packaging of a really bad movie. The concept is a good one: A man stuck in a reality of an oppressive society that controls his every action, no matter how personal, and monitors all he does goes against the system.
Unfortunately, somebody went to the Stanley Kubrick school of minimal dialogue. This movie drags along, advancing the plot in tiny portions until the end which is abrupt and unclear in its implications.
If you are a Lucas fan and just want to see how he got started, rent it. If you actually want to see it again, I don't know why. The real tragedy is that the female star of this movie was quite pretty until she shaved her head for this role. ...
