Good for casual use, but not great

Pros: Easy to use; lots of automatic features; light

Cons: Pictures not as clear as I'd like; more difficult to do manual things

I previously had an old Minolta SLR that I absolutely loved. But it broke so I thought I'd upgrade to a new, more automated SLR. The Canon Rebel had good reviews so I bought it.

The automatic features and built-in flash are certainly more convenient than my old manual camera. But I find it more difficult to do some of the manual things I was accustomed to doing, especially regarding shutter speed and f-stops. Also, the camera didn't stop down as far as my old camera, which was an annoyance since I like taking close up pictures in low light.

The pictures, once developed, were adequate for casual use, but were not as clear in both white and color tones as my old camera. They often seemed too grey.

I bought a digital camera at almost the same time as this to try out the digital world and I found the digital camera to have much better color and clearness than the Canon. Now, I almost never use this Canon, but I think it would be ok for a casual user who just wanted an easy to use SLR. ...
