Interesting Experiment
Pros: Great hand-to-hand, opening action, & cars
Cons: Doomed sequel because of lead actor role
XXX is a the typical "James Bond" archetype. Replace all of the polish and snobbery that Bond's character has with an urban roughness--and you get the XXX character. Where the audience enjoys seeing Bond put into rough & tumble situations-yet keep his cool; it's less successful putting the XXX character into uppety situations and hearing him repeat "dis ain't nothin' like da' hood." The Bond series also suffered from transitions of the lead characters that played Bond--same situation here. The difference is that the pioneer XXX character (Vin Diesel) didn't complete a few successful iterations of the character before unexplainably passing the torch to whomever the "franchise" chose next. Ice cube has the perfect "what are you looking at?" attitude to fit a large part of the XXX character, but the scowl never relaxes--he never shows any other acting chops.
