unforgettable! classic! timeless!
0 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this review helpful This is one of my favourite classics ever since I was a child.I bought a copy of the VCD yesterday & watched it on the computer with my father. The print was superb;the performances by the first-rate cast are excellent(particularly DAVID NIVEN'S);CARL FOREMAN has done an even better adaptation of ALISTAIR MACLEAN'S novel;the inner human conflicts as well as the urgency of the mission are extremely well-blended to give an exhilirating film. ... -

great companion piece to the LONGEST DAY
this is the most underrated of all ww2 classics
taken from CORNELIUS RYAN'S epic novel,it manages to be an anti-war movie,a tremendous action-packed experience & an enlighting epic all at the same time.director RICHARD ATTENBOROUGH has done a magnificent job of clearly & crisply retelling all the events leading to the absolutely unnecessary ARNHEM disaster.eye-popping performances by the entire star-studded cast which includes RYAN O'NEAL,SEAN CONNERY,ANTHONY HOPKINS,ROBERT REDFORD,DIRK BOGARDE,GENE HACKMAN,MICHAEL CAINE,EDWARD FOX,MAXIMILIAN SCHELL & WOLFGANG PREISS(in a superb cameo as RUNSTEDT). ... -

tremendously absorbing,a must watch !
THIS 1948 CLASSIC IS A FLAWLESS LOOK AT BEHIND-THE-MILITARY-BRASS DURING WW2.THERE ARE NO BATTLE SEQUENCES IN THIS MATURE& INTELLIGENT FILM FOR THE VIEWER IS THOROUGHLY FASCINATED BY
THE DRAMA WHICH IS SUSPENSEFUL INDOORS ITSELF.ALL THE CAST MEMBERS(AND WHAT A CAST AT THAT!),GABLE,VAN JOHNSON(WHO ADDS DEFT BITS OF HUMUOR),PIDGEON,BICKFORD& THE REST GIVE UNIFORMLY FINE PERFORMANCES.THIS A GREAT MOVIE IN THE REALM OF LATER DRAMAS LIKE "GO TELL THE SPARTANS" & "SEVEN DAYS IN MAY". ... -

no classic ,but a fine wartime adventure
this sequel to "THE GUNS OF NAVARONE" is highly underrated;in fact it looks poor& is disappointing when compared to the novel by ALISTAIR MACLEAN(which i thought was even better than "WHERE EAGLES DARE")because a lot of the story was changed, however this film has terrific(and humorous)performances by ROBERT SHAW& EDWARD FOX(in particular),as also by FRANCO NERO(who's excellent).RON GOODWIN'S score is good so is the title footage.Director GUY HAMILTON(of the classic "COLDITZ STORY")directs it with gusto;all-star cast which includes HARRISON FORD makes this film worth watching. ... -

TWO TIMELESS CLASSICS IN ONE SET!
1 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this review helpful THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI and LAWRENCE OF ARABIA are two of the most complex & thinking epics ever made.the former is about the most delicious psychological battle of wills going on between P.O.W. colonel GUINESS & japanese commandant HAYAKAWA(both in first rate performances);WILLIAM HOLDEN does the unconvincing heroics with his trademark cynicality(his recruitement by conniving JACK HAWKINS is a beauty).this is a must watch classic! ... -

ABSOLUTELY CLEVER!REALLY GRIPPING!
Those of you who haven't seen this WW2 thriller
with a psychological undertone, catch this one fast.ROD TAYLOR is marvellous as the AMERICAN-born GERMAN officer who tries to brainwash
GARNER into thinking the war is over;script degenerates a bit towards the end,but is very nicely done nonetheless.WERNER PETERS too is extremely good as the despicable NAZI superior
who tries to rob TAYLOR of his credit thus spoiling the entire plan. ... -

THE LONGEST DAY
the cast of 48 actors is alone enough to watch the LONGEST DAY ;MAURICE JARRE produces yet another memorable WW2 movie score.this epic is among the finest ever made recreating the D-DAY events with tension, accuracy & with taste.
the best part is that in spite of it's length
(180 mins.),this is one great epic you can watch again & again.TRIVIA BIT:TRY SPOTTING
