In my book the measure of a great singer, male or female, is in the uniqueness of their sound. Many great female vocalist have graced us throughout the years. Some reveal enormous power. Some have fantastic range or longevity. But I must say, there is no other voice like Phyllis Hyman's. The key: uniqueness and style.
Her style changed the way you hear music. The early Phyllis Hyman releases can move you and groove you. You can hear the happiness and oneness of her love for singing on this "You Know How to Love Me" CD. Just try setting still as the title song rocks. And fellas, if you've ever loved a woman, that woman manifests herself when Phyllis sings "Complete Me". Just close your eyes and try her for yourself. Then go out and by some roses for your special someone because Phyllis Hyman has made all things possible with this cut.
