Beware of Hitachi
Pros: Beautiful pic; plenty of menu options
Cons: Something wrong in the circuitry production
After 26 months of ownership (average weekly use is 20 hours) and out of warranty, I had the exact same problem as ricardot2000. It occurred without warning. I have also learned that others have had this problem, but getting service is expensive and difficult. Unless it is within warranty Hitachi acts oblivious the fact that they put a faulty product on the market.
Many with this problem think it is the power digital board (part JP50763) but a $75 service call by the merchant that sold it to me (after paying $75 to have it taken down from the wall by two hired guys) proved wrong. If that were the problem the total cost to me would have been $873 (about 30% of the purchase price).
I now have to transport it to a Hitachi service center. The closet one to me will necessitate a 352 mile round trip over two days since I have to leave it and they will order parts after diagnosis. Quotes on the various boards that could be causing the problem will set me back $600-$950 total plus my transportation costs and loss of time. This assumes that it is only one board and not multiple failures.
Obviously Hitachi created a problem and should do what is necessary for the consumer. Many are suffering a large monetary loss because they will not stand behind their product for a reasonable amount of time. ...
