a review of the movie
Pros: Folows the book almost word for word
Cons: Folows the book almost word for word
The reason I said that it is both good and bad that this move is so true to the book is that now theres no reason to read it. When I was first told to read this book for school, I thought to myself 'great. another book that I wont like.' After reading the first page I couldnt put it down. Later I read it again just because it was that well written.
Now with the advent of this movie, there is no reason to read it again. As I was watching this in the theater I was almost litarly seeing the pages. It's good to see a movie based on a book that wasnt totaly rewitten or striped down to fit in a time frame.
I would like to add also that this is the best movie that has come out with the Disney name on it for a while. Especialy, it is the best movie with live actors in it to come from disney sence Tron.
There are no hints at popular culture as it is today. There is no product placement. Just a wonderfull story that speeks as much to an adult as it does to a child.
Little bit of advice for other parents out there. Once you get done watching this read the book and the other six in the series with your kids. ... -

Ok my turn
Pros: Well put together story line
Cons: Director seemed to be lacking a little. So were the sound guys.
There are a few things that make this movie not like by people that are not mezmarized by Bruce Willis. First being that it is truely a fantasy. The setting is totaly unfamiliar to the viewer. Most things in the everyday life of this story seem to be extrapilations of modren day taken to the extreme.
Second thing for American audiances is that you have to work some things out for yourself based on information presented. American movie audiances don't like to think for themselves. If it's pre-digested for them, they do much better.
There are other things like the amazingly outragious fashions that people wear. Most of that gets missed as people are to busy looking at the other stuff going on in the background.
Over all it is a very good movie in my opinion. But then I like to think for myself, I am creative and can see where some items in this move might come about.
Most of what people call actor flaws in this movie seem to be more director flaws. I say this as every one of the actors in this movie when see with a proper director does much better. Well, except Mr. Willis. He realy doesn't change charicters. I think this is partly due to the fact that directors don't tell him he needs to change his persona. Yes, directors can get star struck just like everyone else.
The story it's self was very well written. It keeps things moving right, and was origional in it's own right. To say that something is not origional because you've seen somethng close is very short sighted. That's one of those things with humans. They are influanced by what they have experianced before.
as a last note I know I don't spell very well. sorry, I try the best I can. ...

Cons: the suspense is killing me
Everything is right on this new version of Battlestar Galactica. From writing to directing to acting to set design, it is all belivable.
On set design: Like others point out, you belive that people actualy live there. Not just because theres a little dirt, but because the walls show signs of life. There are dents in the rails where some one might have droped something heavy. There is rust on panels. The paint is starting to crack and peel off in places because they haven't had time to re-decorate the walls. Lables on buttons are worn off from use. Theres bathrooms. (Thats the real indicator right there)
On acting: The charicters show signs of strain from being on the run for so long. The people make mistakes. They argue while forgetting that others are around because they are so pissed. They butt heads for athuority. They show emotion in situations. They deal with problems they don't think they can handle. They sacrifice for the good of all above themselves. After watching this show you will belive that you could walk up to any one of the charicters in person.
My main problem with this show is that they are not making them fast enough. It's like reading a book that takes you in fully while it's being written. You cant turn the page untill next week when more is done.
Excelant job to all those involved in this show. I can hardly contain myself waiting for next season now. Oh yeah, and 'Apollo' (Jamie Bamber) sounds kinda odd with out an American accent. One of those things you find out by watching the behind the scenes stuff on the disks. ...
