Atlantic Rhythm & Blues Box - One of the Greatest
Pros: Unbelievable Retrospective of Atlantic Records
Cons: None
Were I to get into the details of all of the fabulous music on this compilation, my review here would be as long as the text of the fantastic booklet that comes with the box. Probably it would be tedious as well, since it would be an example of overusing superlatives.
Suffice to say that, if you have any taste for American R&B from the late 40s through 1974, this box set will make you cry, it's so good. It's an 8-CD set, so it is not cheap, but believe me it is money well spent... you will never regret it. One technical note: the sound quality from resulting from remastering is noticeably warm and enjoyable; not the least bit sterile and/or tinny, as some digital versions of great vinyl turn out to be.....just another reason to love it.
It contains lots of songs you know, lots of songs you may not know, and lots of songs that "...you know, but don't know that you know."
Buy it!... Rack'em up, call some friends, have a party. And, as Solomon Burke says in Volume-5, "Cry to me!" ...
