Flying High with Flyboys
Pros: Great cinematography, decent acting, great aerial combat scenes
Cons: decent acting
I wasn' sure what to expect when my father-in-law lent me this dvd. But I know I wasn't expecting a great movie.
Set in WWI, some Americans join a French battalion of airplane fighters.
What follows is a great story, engaging characters and a rugged look into aerial warfare at the turn of the century.
The movie isn't as violent as you'd expect for a war film. I think families with children over 10 could watch it and talk abou the horrors of war. ... -

A best of disc full of Heart!!
Pros: music is crisp and clean and beautifully remastered,38 songs for $16 (iTunes), it's Heart what else is there to say?
Cons: none
After hearing a recent American Idol contestant sing a Heart song, I jumped onto iTunes and found "The Essential Heart" offering, 38 tracks of all the best of Heart, for only $16. No brainer purchase there..
This is such a great album. The vibe it gives off is that of a live concert. All the instruments are clear and clean. The production on every song is top notch.
The song selection is perfect. All the hits are here and in full force!
Heart has a special place in my heart because I can remember listening to one of their records when I was young. It is the only record I can remember!
If you even mildly like Heart, this is a must buy. ... -

The Show is just starting for this Metal Band
Pros: sweet, crunchy heavy metal guitar, barking tight BGV's,awesome production
Cons: a little on the short side, with songs averaging under 3 minutes
First War of Ages, then Killswitch Engage, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, Destroy the Runner and now Jesus Wept. I think I'm really liking the metalcore movement now!
Jesus Wept is by far one of the best discs I've heard in a long, long time. Metal guitars cut you open and melt your face. Big Back Ground Vocals give you a black eye. man, this is a great cd.
Some stand out songs are Break Me, Against the Grain, and OMG (stands for Oh My God, and is a passionate plea to the Creator and Lord of All to help a struggling sinner).
If you are a fan of oldschool thrash mixed with some heavy speed metal with a little dash of punk, you will LOVE this disc. ... -

whoa!! Awesome CD!!
Pros: great voice, great rhythms and production, lyrics are heartfelt and sincere
Cons: a little poppy
I'd never heard of Jonny Lang and a friend let me listen to his new CD, Turn Around, and I was blown away! Some great pop blues!
Jonny's vocals are super strong and full of emotion. Vibrant rhythms get you movin' in your seat (if you are sitting down..) and crisp production make this a great CD.
just a little warning - if you are looking for bluesy rock, it won't be found here. But if you want some fun poppy blues this is your cd!! ... -

Sold on Cities
Pros: Great Production, unique sound,
Cons: one of those records you have to be in the mood for
Anberlin released their 3rd cd yesterday. It is titled Cities and was released to wide acclaim.
I've been a big fan of Anberlin since their very first album, so I was looking forward to this record. It is good, great in some areas actually.
For some reason this disc just didn't grab me as I hoped it would. The sound is uniquely Anberlin, and the songs are clever with some catchy guitar, but I just don't know! Their other two albums hooked me right at the first song. One track that definitely stands out is Dismantle.Repair.
Again, this is a great cd. You just have to be in the mood to listen to it. ... -

Tempting me to listen over and over and over
Pros: Darn good crunchy guitars, deep rumbling vocals, GUITAR SOLOS, awesome production,
Cons: can't pick out the bass guitar too much
This is a great day for music lovers. Anberlin, tobyMac, and the Showdown all put out new albums today!
I was not sure that I would like this album. The Showdown's last record, A Chorus of Obliteration, was a metalcore, speedmetal, screamo album. I loved the music, but the vocals just killed it for me. Temptaion Come My Way is a totally different story! Metal to the core, with driving guitar solos, heavy drums, and actual singing!!
To top it off, they even cover Kansas' "Carry On My Wayward Son"!!
If you love heavy metal, this album is so for you! ... -

Awesome follow-up Diverse City!!
Pros: Beatiful beats, creative rhythms, catchy lyrics, truDog, great clear production,
Cons: absolutely nothing
Well, tobyMac has done it again. I didn't think he could, but he did. He actually made a better record than Diverse City. Wow...
A little history here - I've been listening to Diverse City since it was released a couple of years ago. My kids absolutely love it. We actually haven't stopped listening to it. Welcome to Diverse City (and the remix Renovating Diverse City) is actually that good. Perfect combination of catchy rhymes, rock, rap, and pop, all rolled up into one CD.
But since this is a review of Portable Sounds, all of the above applies too! This album is a fresh take on hip hop with a dash of rock (Boomin' in particular). truDog (tobyMacs prodigous son - he is gonna make some fantastic records!) makes another appearance, much to mine and my kid's delight.
This again is a perfect album, and I don't say that lightly. But I give credit where credit is due. GO BUY THIS NOW AND YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!! ... -

Spend one night with this good movie
Pros: story of Esther faithfully told, good period piece
Cons: acting a little stilted,a little slow at the beginning
We had a great weekend! Two good family movie rentals!
One Night with the King is a great retelling of the story of Esther, the queen who saved her people.
It is a period piece and the sets and costumes look very authentic. One could wonder of the glory of Persia from what you see in this movie.
The acting is good for the most part, but some it is a little sub-par. The story starts off a little slow, and if you don't pay attention you can get lost.
I'd totally recommend this movie! The girl that plays Esther does a great job infusing this historical character with panashe and life. ... -

Awesome Movie!!!!!
1 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this review helpfulPros: great story, people of faith shown as struggling, but still as real people (not kooky),good football action
Cons: acting is a tad cheesy at times
Just go buy this movie right now. I mean it. Stop what you are doing and go buy this movie.
It is an awesome family movie that shows real people of faith in real struggles in their lives. Usually Christians are made out to be weirdos or wackos in the movies, but not here. Christianity is portrayed positively and realistically.
The football action is great, as are some of the sub stories.
My only concern is that it could have a "name it and claim it" connotation, that if we obey God all good things come our way. There are many genuine Christians that are martyred and persecuted everyday; their lives aren't all roses even though they obey God with their all their heart.
Be that is it may, if you just want a great family movie to enjoy, this is it!! ...

Suprisingly Alive and Fresh! 2 Thumbs way up!
Pros: Funny, funny, and funny! What is better than a funny Zombie movie?
Cons: none
Words fail me; this is just a classic great movie! It's almost like Napoleon Dynamite meets Night of the Living Dead....well, it is Napoleon Dynamite meets Night of the Living Dead.
The film is shot very well, and the zombies are perfectly slow and stupid.
If you love funny movies, then this is for you! ...
