Squeaky Gears gets the Grease or Blood
0 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this review helpfulPros: Graphics top of the line. Smooth game play.
Cons: Kind of short. Somewhat weak A.I.
By far one of the best shooters to come out in a long time. Gears of War will give you a challenge that will lead the pack for this genre for years to come. The graphics are almost cinema quality. Controls, while taking used to with the analog stick, are perfect for aiming the weapons to destroy all the critters you will face. And do you get some weapons. The best by far is the Hammer of Dawn. Just think of a gun that can use a nuclear bomb as ammo. While only limted to a few areas destroying enemies to fried crispiness is nothing short of orgasmic. The only glitches in this perfect armor would be the A.I. While at first it can be overwhelming, they are pretty much to figure out with time. The again, they are bugs with only one purpose...KILL KILL KILL. Secondly, with only 5 acts, you can knock out this game in less than 30 hours on casual..maybe 40+ on hardcore. With the multiplayer and online play, you can go around as Locust or humans, each with their own brand of weapons and carnage filled bloodlust you come to expect from such bitter enemies.
Overall, this is one of the gems for the 360. And if the sequel is anything like this first installment, I don't see why Gears of War 2 will be as a hit as the first one. Get it, play it, LOVE IT! ... -

War never felt so good!
Pros: Fast game to learn. Great replay value.
Cons: Online play does tend to stall at times. Micromanaging can be tedious.
This is one of the best real time strategy games ever. The mechanics of Winter Assault is straightforward with a simple learning curve. Once you learn how to build your army the mission is to destroy your enemy. You start the solo mission aspects of the game by playing either Order (The Human Imperial Guard or the Enigmatic Eldar) or Disorder (The forces of Chaos and the Ravenous Orks). You go on various mission with different scenarios and objectives that must be met in order to continue on with the game. While some of the missions can be challenging, once you understand each races strengths and weaknesses, you will breeze through the solo missions and then be ready to play the other options of the game.
The skirmish mode is where this game this game really earns its keep. You can select one of several combat maps to fight in a one on one or in teams up to 8. You can play against the computer or several others on a network. Playing against the computer can be challenging but at times predictable. Also this game has a full support of players creating additional maps that give you new challenges to overcome, and new territories to conquer.
To play online is free and there are always challengers waiting to test their mettle. While there are some networks glitches and slow game play at times, there is nothing better than take your army and show your opponents who truly rules the galaxy.
The last bonus for this game is the create an army painter. While you are only limited to the 5 races available to the game (Space Marines are also included), you can create your own army with its own unique paint scheme and set forth to take over the universe.
Overall, Winter Assault is one of the best military strategy games out there. The game play is excellent and the constant release of new maps will ensure the replay ability for a long time to come. I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes a good strategy game. ... -

Long Awaited, Slightly Disappointed.
Pros: Every character every played is here. Streamlined Moves
Cons: Lack of unique fatalities
When i heard this was to be the final Mortal Kombat, I was kind of sadden. However, when it was to have every character that had the joy of hearing the words "FINISH HIM!", I was overjoyed. I rented the game before I bought it just to see how good they made the last installment of the best fighting game ever. Seeing every character from Subzero to Havoc was a joy, even with the new makeovers. I really liked the streamlined controls for each character. While they did make the movements more in depth, they didn't make it a simple one finger "mashathon". It will take button combinations to get the job done.
Sadly, where this game goes south is the unique fatality. Instead of having Subzero give you a nice ice freeze shatter movement, or Kabal scaring the holy life out of you, you now get to do a small chain of combos that are embarrassing at best. To take a classic stable in the series and make it a collection of brutal attacks is a joke.
Overall, this game is a small death keel for the series. It goes with a slight whimper instead of a bang. This game is a rental at best. Sad way to see such a series go. ...
So much potential...so much disappointment
Pros: Good Storyline, Nice Audio For A Next Gen Game
Cons: Choppy Graphics, Choppy Game Play, Too Short
When I heard this game was coming out for the 360, I kind of had my reservations. Comic book based video games have a tendecy to either be great hits or terrible disasters. This game of the Top Cow character kind of brings lots of potential but disappointing delivery.
You play as the mobster hit man Jackie Estacado who is the inheritor of The Darkness - a great power that is passed down from generation to generation. Jackie is betrayed by his Uncle, the crime boss Paulie Franchetti and has a contract set for his life. Estacado attempts to fight his way through the streets of New York City and the hellish, nightmare realm of a permanent World War I battle. With every passing moment, Jackie is overcome by the Darkness.
The Darkness has one of the most original storylines in quite sometime, but with the same classic theme: love, power and revenge. The sounds in this game almost make you feel you are there with every gunshot and every bone crunching sound as the darkness devours its victims. Also calling the power of the Darkness to summon small "darklings" to do your bidding is always a welcome addition.
While the audio tracks are well done, the graphics leave much to be desired. Characters look almost automated and interact just much. It does not push the new power of the 360 at all or lives up to the Top Cow standards of great art. Game play is flimsy at best. Running and aiming with the analog stick feels more stiff than most other first person shooters. The AI on this game is almost comical. You can allow your minions to do the dirty work or just camp in the darkness and send out the power of the creeping vines to clear any problems.
Lastly, this game is entirely too short. With sidequests and main gameplay, you can finish this game in less than 30 hours. Online multiplayer does give this game some limited replayability but not by much. There is only so much pesky mini-devils with gatling guns can do.
Overall, this game is a rental at best. There was some good potential for this game and I hope the next installment of this game if there is one, it can bring better graphics and game play. Let the Darkness embrace you. ...
