Pros: Still looking in new directions for sounds and textures.
Cons: As is often the case, I needed to "get used" to the modified style.
This is a very late album review.. It's '06 now, instead of '04 when the album released. The general feel of "statik" as I call it, is alot like Candyass and Vapor transmission crossed and mixed. To complicate matters all the more, Jay Gordan actually "screams" on this album every now and again. I also noticed that the extremes between a mellow sound and an aggressive sound are punctuated more than on the first two releases. I was expecting Vapor Transmission "2", so I was pretty shocked. But I soon noticed that the sound was at least as complex and unique as before. I started to like this album as much as "Vapor" and a bit more than "Candyass". As far as lyrics go... I pick up less of the "pissed off teenager factor" this time around. (Which really grew on me.) Many of the songs are danceable and actually very groove oriented. Strictly on the instrumental side. It sounds more as though it's all about the music. Less about a huge number of different synth tones. My biggest hope is that Orgy keeps releasing albums. I love all three and want more. ...
