Diane Lane is captivating!
Pros: great "chick flick"/beautiful cinematography of Italy
Cons: Sometimes I couldn't quite understand what the real estate agent, who sold Bramisole to Frances, was saying in English because of his accent and how fast and quiet he was speaking that I had to rewind the DVD a couple of times and increase the volume to listen better. I hate interrupting films like that. But I also like to grasp the entire dialogue, especially of a poignant scene.
I have not yet had the pleasure of reading Frances Mayes' original book, "Under the Tuscan Sun." But I thoroughly enjoyed the Hollywood-version film. I absolutely enjoyed Diane Lane's acting. She portrayed her character, Frances' emotions with genuine honesty... with credibility where we all women can relate to Frances! I loved the friendships that Frances shares with Patti (Sandra Oh) and that free-spirited Katharine/Catherine (Lindsay Duncan). Italy looks beautiful in this film! I want to go there now! The last film I saw that made me want to impulsively fly to Italy was with Liv Tyler in her film debut... "Stealing Beauty" or something like that. Back to Diane Lane, she is very beautiful, sexy, real and funny! I love watching her on-screen. I loved her in "Unfaithful" and I can't wait to see her latest, "Must Love Dogs" with John Cusak and Elizabeth Perkins. ...

suspenseful; shocking!
Pros: great cast; Diane is superb!
Cons: ending left you questioning; I guess it was meant to... and I think we all know what was going to be their last stop (don't want to give the movie away)
Richard Gere was amazingly frightening. I mean, he was soft and sincere... yet at the same time, he was just as mysterious as Diane Lane's character... even more sinister once you see the climax of the film. Diane Lane was so honest and real, especially in the scene where she is riding the subway back home after her first sexual encounter with her secret lover. She's feeling excited, scared, curious and guilty... everything is racing through her mind as her heart's beating faster. She now has this "double life." You imagine that you'd be feeling what she's feeling! The sex scenes are powerful. Great chemistry! I still think Diane and Richard are perfect together. Gere is sexier than the other guy in my opinion. Love the way Gere's character does his own investigations. Body language of Diane Lane and Richard Gere says it all if no words are said. You can feel the tension of the characters. You can feel the story escalating to its climax. ...
