Awful Magellan customer service
Pros: Decent product, when working
Cons: That damn SD card!
Long story made short. The SD card (stores the maps) went bad (Magellan thinks) on my 1200. They are sending me a replacement SD card (eight days later, not the five days promised). They also refused to send the SD card overnight free-of-charge, despite my telling them how inconvenienced I am without it (you'd think they'd take that as a compliment). Still under warranty, so no cost to me. But, I told them, if one SD card failed within a year of purchase, I think the second SD card may well fail also within another year. So, I asked, can I get a second card, anticipating such failure again? No, they said. BTW, cost of an SD card out of warranty is $80. If it fails again out of warranty, I told them, I am not going to pay $80 for another one (SD card); it makes more sense to put the $80 toward another unit. If this happens, I said, I am not going to buy another Magellan.
My next GPS unit will be a Garmin NUVI. Magellan really left a bad impression, and I blame their outsourced (off-shore, maybe) customer service for my bad opinion. ...
