Great starter camera
11 of 11 Yahoo! Users found this review helpful I got this camera after having good luck with a previous SiPix model that I handed down to another. SiPix cameras are inexpensive, easy to use, and have lot's of neat functions. Just the way I like it for short term electronics items like this. Everything thing works as stated. The movie function is cool but produces only low res clips but still a priceless feature. I captured a movie of myself snow skiing for the first time. Unbelievable. First baby steps, animal antics, and other short clips, will give you great joy.At a price that is well below the cheapest camcorder, and with out the added weight too. The only issues I have are the following:
When tranferring images, I get the highest res images if I forgo the camera's bulk transfer function (you will get 1.5MB jpeg images out of it even if you shot them at 3.3MB if you do it this way) and opt to transfer the images manually using the Photo Impression software that was included with my camera; saving the images as Bitmaps first to retain all the data (for printing, enlargements, or zooming in to view fine details of objects), then crop, fix, etc. and saving selected images as jpeg's (much lower res) for web posting or emailing later.
My other issue is that I cannot get any really good closeup photos of small shiny objects from this camera such as jewelry, gemstones, minerals, etc. This is unfortunate, but this camera has been good for so many other things I still highly recommend it, especially if it under $125.00.
this camera has digital zoom, not optical zoom, which is useless. Do not use it, it will result in poor quality photos. Just get closer.
It eats batteries like crazy so get a rechargable set of 8 and a 1 hr charger and keep plenty charged up.
Enjoy! ...
