Not as bad as I thought it would be.
Pros: Influx of supplemental comedians
Cons: Characters were too much like caricatures
I dreaded seeing this movie, thinking it would be nothing more than a play on the fat black woman stereotype. I was horrified by the child version of Raspucia and wondered if the girl was real, and felt sorry for her if she is. The plot was predictable, and basically a series of jokes revolving around the fat black woman with an attitude and her skinny, spineless husband. I'm not sure why jiggling fat with sound effects is supposed to be so funny, but the movie relied on it. What actually made me like the movie was the presence of Cuba Gooding, Jr., Eddie Griffin, Katt Williams, and Michael Collier -- they made the movie bearable for me. I know it's just comedy, but it was comedically unoriginal although Eddie Murphy is admittedly very talented. ...
