It was an O.K. western
Pros: slight hint of mystery,
Cons: none to speak of
Sam Elliot plays a mysterious stranger who befriends a family as they move west from PA. The family, being green to the area, soon finds themselves being chased by a band of thieves and killers and it is up to Sam Elliot to keep them alive.
As a made for tv movie this western has tame language, a pretty decent story, and quite a bit of good scenery shots. Would be a good Sunday afternoon movie for the whole family. ... -

Well Told Story
Pros: Characters are not larger than life
Cons: none
I like the way this story was told. It shows these characters as being a lot more like human beings than the overly brave folk heros in some older versions of this story.
Billy Bob Thornton, I think did very well as Davy Crockett, and played him as a man, who could laugh at his own legend, and one who seemed to have a certain amount of fear being at the alamo, but held true to his duty.
There were other likable characters as well, and the movie goes on to show Texas independence after the battle of the Alamo.
I have personally watched this movie near 10 times already and am glad it is in my video collection because i will continue to watch it again. ... -

A really bad movie
Pros: snow boarding scenes
Cons: everything else
It has been a while since I have seen a movie I just really hated, but this one got me. I bought it expecting it to be something like "Hot Dog, the Movie" or maybe even like "Aspen Extreme", but with snow boards instead of skis. I was so wrong.
It is a very campy movie about a smart-ass pothead who gets invited to an uptight snowboarding school. Of course he isn't accepted well once getting there and soon finds himself kicked out of the school and befriended by the locals, and saves the day by settling a fued between the "rich-ees, and poor-ees" by boarding down a very killer slope.
The acting is horrible, and the direction isn't much better. Most of the scenes seem choppy and the story does not flow well at all. It is advertised as being sexy and you are misled that there is a lot of nudity in this movie, which there isn't, and there probably should have been. It may have helped save it. It is a Rated R movie, but clearly it is aimed at a much younger audience.
I do not plan on suffering through this again, and would not reccomend it to asnother, at all. ... -

Good War Movie
Pros: Realistic
Cons: none
Based on an actual battle campaign during the Viet Nam war, this movie centers on a small unit of the 101st airborne fighting to capture a hill in the A Shau valley.
The character chemistry is good and the movie flows along well. Covers many aspects of that era, and brings a lot of realism to the film.
Some of the combat scenes are a little graphic, but not overly disturbing, especially by today's standards.
I have scene this movie a few times, and now that I own it, it will be one I return to many more times. ... -

An inside look into pro Football in the 70's
Pros: Good Movie
Cons: Maybe needed a few more actual football scenes
This movie takes you inside pro football, as seen from the late 70's perspective.
Nick Nolte plays an aging reciever, who is beat-up and battered trying to buck the system of corporate football politics. Mac Davis Plays is partner and the teams star quarterback.
Both have similar antics to Hawkeye and Trapper John, is the best way I can describe it. They work out less then the rest of the team, drink a lot and provide a witty bit of sarcasm towards the coaching staff.
For me the comic relief came from Bo Svenson, who plays kinda a brain dead angry animal type of offensive line man. Don't stand in his way for anything.
All in all the movie is very enjoyable, and would recommend to all. ... -

A Great Gangster era Movie
Pros: Everything
Cons: None
Another all star cast before most were anybody. De Niro plays a convincing Al Capone with charm and wit but also shows his tough and dark side. Connery brings humor to the film as a street wise beat cop who teaches a young Kevin Costner about Chicago style police work.
A good evening movie for all. Especially anybody interested in a gone by era of America's history. ... -

One of the better return to Viet Nam type movies
Pros: All Star Cast
Cons: None
A misfitted band of former soldiers team up 10 yrs later to rescue one of thier own from a POW camp in Laos.
A pretty good guy film. this movie has quiet a bit of action in it. Lots of explosions and shooting. Quite a bit of heroics.
It has a good cast of actors, Gene Hackman, Tex Cobb, Fred Ward, Patrick Swayze and a few others. Is a good Sunday afternoon film, or any other time you just need an action film to see. ... -

Interesting
Pros: Resourceful
Cons: a little difficult for quick referencing
This book is full of useful information. Broken down into many small sections, it is a good road map book, as well as sightseeing information. I use it often as I am researching trips or when I am just curious about various regions.
My only complaint, and it really isn't a complaint, is that it is difficult to find what you are looking for at first. Although, it gives you a goodsize overview map, the ay the book is broken down in sections makes it a bit difficult to get from point A to Point B, until you figure out thier logic when the created the book.
Other than that I find it very useful, and is one I always go to when looking to go somewhere. I still would recommend it to all. ... -

Great Travel Book
Pros: Well thought out
Cons: none
Dayle Coyner put a lot of thought into this book. He has researched the areas in which he has traveled very well.

I really enjoyed this book and suggest it to anybody wishing to journey through the Appalachians no matter what form of transportation used. ...

A great Fight Movie
Pros: Great story w/ lots of action
Cons: none
As with most "American team" movies, a hodge podge team of fighters is assembled to fight the Korean's in an international martial arts tournement. The movie goes into the personal lives of most of the characters so you feel as if you already know them. It follows you through the training and the friendships that they build. Then to the competition.
This movie also has a good moral message to the audience, and by the time it is over you have a sense of combating your own challenges, and may be inspired to be your own "Best of the Best"
Definately a must see movie! ...
