Superior in most ways
Pros: Image quality, long optical zoom ratio, rugged construction
Cons: electronic viewfinder, no flash synch socket
Have owned the 5700 for almost 3 years now and must report that it has exceeded all expectations. Strongly recommend adding the battery grip accessory. (MB-E5700) It improves the balance of the camera and battery life is incredible with it.
Movie mode is great but wish it didn't have the one minute time limit.
The electronic viewfinder is the only major complaint I have for this camera. It is slow and takes practice to use efficiently.
I have used this camera under very extreme conditions, sub-zero temperatures, salt water environments, dusty deserts and love how nothing stops this camera from doing it's job.
Highly recommended, particularly now that price has come down so much. Excellent image quality and RAW mode option is a plus. ...
