The Haunting
Pros: The screenwiter, director, actors and the technology at the time.
Cons: The availability of the film on DVD, 45 years after production!
This is my all time favorite horror film! With less han one minute of violence, no blood and gore and very few special effects, hey it was made in 1961, they acomplished a timeless HORROR / TERROR CLASSIC!
The script written with only a possible outline or idea from the novel, The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, Nelson Gidding was inspired to create a story that needed none of what all horror films use today in great abundance, violence, blood and gore and special effects from the begining thought to the ending credits.
Even the remake of The Haunting with all the current trappings previously mentioned could not stand up to the original.
The "combination of talent" was one of the rare events to occur in the history of movie making. This combination which brought to life an altimate Horror / Terror Classic is what inspires others to continue to reach out beyond the norm to create a movie like THE HAUNTING! ...
