not recommended for use with desktop pc
Pros: you don't have to open your pc to install wireless
Cons: looses connection to access point every 15 minutes
I bought this item 3 days ago because I thought it was great that you didn't have to open up your pc to install a wireless card. My OS is Windows XP SP2. Installation and Setup of the item is fairly easy. You can disable the Windows XP wireless setup utility in the program utility that comes with the item. You can choose to connect the stick directly to a usb port on your pc or on a little stand with usb connection that comes with it. This gives you the chance to move it arround to find the optimal space for best connection. However, I tried both and the stick is about 40 inches away from the access point but it looses connection every 15 to 20 minutes. You have to go back into the the program utility and refresh the connection and it comes up again almost immediately but this is very inconvenient. Also ever since I use it, my pc has become somewhat instable. It stalls, freezes and won't let me shut down if I want to reboot it. I always end up having to do a "cold" start up.
All over I wouldn't recommend this item for PC useres. I didn't try it on my laptop since I have a lynksys card in there that works just fine. ...
