A true period piece
Set in the 1940's, the story, the characters are true to the period. All of the themes in the movie are shown in the light of the times from the discovery of a homosexual dalliance to the torture of adultry and unrequited love. Nothing is glamorized, all of the characters react as they would during that time. This film should not be judged as "sappy", and we should not feel guilty if it tugs at our heart strings. Russell Crowe again proves his chameleon acting ability - walking, talking and breathing as a 1940's fly boy who is about to face the reality of war. His recitation of the poem in this film is phenomenal! ...
