Cons: It's not the same old Kenny Chesney...
But that's not really a bad thing, unless you just can't live without a KC album that has a catchy tune like Big Star. Be As You Are is all-island-all-the-time, and marks a departure from Kenny's past releases. Although, it should be noted that he's been moving in this direction, starting with No Shoes. He went further with When the Sun Goes Down, and I believe this is the culmination. And I like it! My wife's favorite is Somewhere in the Sun; mine is Guitars, Tiki Bars (cause I would love to toss my cell phone and Blackberry.) I think we agree our least favorite is Key Lime Pie. My theory, now that he's rested and gotten this out of his system, is that his next album will return to "his" sound, i.e. Don't Happen Twice, Young, etc. Or maybe he'll take it in a totally new direction and do a Willie-and-Waylon-style Outlaw album. (Which I think, after hearing him do Luckenbach with Kid Rock, would be awesome!) So end result: buy the album and enjoy it for what it is, Kenny's vacation on the islands. ...
