Take to the skies, sonny!
0 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this review helpfulPros: Wide variety of REAL planes, Authentic control, Really fun gameplay, Good storyline
Cons: Not many people on line, Controlls can be difficult to master
After playing a short demo of this game over and over I had to rent it. Once I did I could hardly put it down the week I had it. I did manage to beat most of the story, though not on ACE, the hardest setting. I could not get enough of the feeling of soaring through the air fighting planes and ships all around you. The game does a good job at making you feel like you are in the middle of all the great battles of the pacific campaign.
The online mode had a few different game modes to choose from, though not many people were on when I had the game. Dogfighting proved very difficult but I really enjoyed the "scratch one flat top" game where each team tries to sink the other's carrier.
If you at all enjoy flying games then this is definately worth a try. I like Ace Combat 5 and I loved this game, but remember, it's WWII. That means there are no heat-seeking lock-on missles. Just the old school ones that shoot streight and not even where you are pointing them all the time. The game can be very hard in this respect for some, but I managed to get the hang of precision aiming while flying. It's a lot of fun to bank quickly and blast an enemy fighter. So I would say pilots and shooter fans, this game may be too difficult for most average gamers. ... -

Get this for the on line or don't buy
Pros: Great online experience, Good arsenal, Nice vehicles (land ones anyway), Good gameplay
Cons: Almost pointless offline story mode, Helicopter control is VERY difficult
I found this game to be best played online. The offline game quickly becomes boring with several side missions with little reward. I found the online play to be very engaging dispite the lack of game selection.
There are only two game modes online, capture the flag (we all know what that is) and conquer (capture and hold key ground points or targets). As you play conquer you quickly realize that even the same map over and over can play vastly differently each time. It is also really fun to jump into a vehicle with a few buddies and talk to each other like you were right there. I thought it was neat anyway.
So if you don't have online, I would steer clear of this game altogether. If you are looking for a "SOCOM 3 or Battlefield 2" then you have to look at a few things. If you don't have a credit card, you can't join clans or be ranked on line in SOCOM 3. So if you don't have a credit card DEFINATELY buy Battlefield 2. If you do, you might be able to do more with SOCOM on line, but I still thought this played better, especially with the vehicles. ... -

Great for first time PS2 owners
Pros: Exellent non-linear gameplay, Exellent storyline, Great soundtrack, Great graphics
Cons: Graphics can be choppy, Sountrack will loop
This was the first game I bought with my PS2 and this series is the reason I have stuck with it. The free roaming gameplay of the first two installments (on PS1) has been made 3d and just about anything is possible now. The ability to free roam in a living, breathing city is something every serious gamer should enjoy.
I have noticed quite a few on here take a notice of the violence in this game, as this game has become an easy target for conservatives and liberals alike. Of course this game is violent it says "M" on the cover. That should be treated as an "R" rating on a movie. NO MORE, NO LESS.
Enough about that, this game is an experience in and of itself. I wasn't able to put it down until I had finished, and then I wanted more. You can go out and buy Vice City now and San Andreas after that, but I wouldn't suggest doing that as it takes a while to work through each game. ... -

Miami circa 1986...A man slips into town unnoticed
Pros: Exellent non-linear gameplay, Exellent Storyline, Exellent 80's soundtrack, Wide variety of cars and guns
Cons: Graphics can be buggy at times, Some save points DO NOT WORK!!!
This game is everything we have come to expect from the grand theft auto series. There seems to be a big debate about weather this or GTA 3 is better, and of course I would pick Vice City. Wile GTA 3 was every bit as solid a game as this, Vice City simply has more of everything. It also has more bugs, so I would suggest ONLY saving at the orgional hotel point that you get and the Mansion you will get halfway through. Saving anywhere else could cause your game to be lost, but this problem could only be on older copies of the game, I'm not sure.
I was so addicted to this game I got everything. That's right, 100% completion, and the reward is lackluster, but will make you laugh out loud! Typical Rockstar satire, you should expect no less than to laugh you ass off the entire time you play this game.
There is also never a shortage of things to do. Even if it is to see how long you can run around with a wanted level, I still like the police chases in this game the best.
I would recommend if you are buying a new or used PS2 for the first time buying GTA 3 with the system, when I bought mine origionally that was the game I got. It is an exellent first game for the system and you will be able to play all three of them right in a row! I would wait to buy this one, it will take you some time to work through each one. The plot itself isn't actually that long, but to complete even some of the side missions will take a while. It is well worth it though as these are every bit as fun AND help you with the game.
I hope this was helpful. I am a huge fan of the GTA series and it remains the biggest reason I am such a SonyHead. I think EVERYONE who owns a PS2 should play at least one of the games in this series, I feel it is unmatched in gameplay, storyline and attention to detail.
ONE PERSONAL NOTE:if you drive on top of a building across from the porn studio, there is a sign sticking up from the rooftop that says "Milligan hotel" or something like that. That's my last name! It always thought that was cool anyway. ... -

One of the richest, deepest tales ever told...
Pros: Exellent graphics and sound, Exellent combat system, Breathtaking full voice cutscenes, Exellent storyline, Good gameplay
Cons: Saving can be hard at times, Time investment required
For those of you who haven't played this game, you should. This game is standard fare for the PS2 and remains over 4 years later one of the best games on the system. This title is deserving of the moniker "Greatest Hit" in every sense of the word.
The merger of Squaresoft and Enix worried many in the RPG community, but all of those doubts were put to rest with this game. The fusion of the two teams resulted in a cinematic experience unlike any other (exept maybe X-2 or Xenosaga).
Apart from the cinematics, both the combat and charactar development systems change yet again with Final Fantasy regularity, and this time for the better. The real time combat is exellent and easily the best I've seen. As with all RPG's, the battles get rather repetitive at points but you are always working twords something.
Makes a great game when buying a new or used PS2 for the first time. ... -

Very entertaining ADULT twist on the Sims
4 of 4 Yahoo! Users found this review helpfulPros: Nice gameplay, good goals system keeps you playing, good soundtrack
Cons: Limited game progression, charactar models can be boxy at times
You may think that this would just be a cheap hack of the sims, and to a point you would be right. I would still not overlook this game if the idea at all interests you. Dispite the glaring simialrity of the gameplay to the sims, you will still not forget that you are in the PLAYBOY MANSION! Your job is to release a quality issue every month and grow the Playboy empire. You even have to take the Cover shots and Centerfolds, and I found this to be one of my favorite parts :-D. Although they are only topless, it is still fun to try and snap the picture at just the right time to get the hottest cover possible. As you progress your influence and celebrity friends grow and you throw parties and mingle as much as possilble. If this sounds like fun to you, this game is definately worth a try. If not keep going. ...

You're better off with Sega's or EA's baseball
2 of 3 Yahoo! Users found this review helpfulPros: Good charactar models, nice graphics and stadiums, nice presentation
Cons: Bad pitching controls, bad soundtrack, boring announcers
I wasn't very impressed with this ball game. The worst part and the part that really drew the whole game down was the pitching. The pitch would move based on the type of pitch that you were throwing making it hard to judge where to throw. On top of that, the ball would still not want to go any where near where I thought it should. The batting wasin't quite as bad as I was reasonably able to make contact. I would definately recommend either of the other baseball games released this year over this one. ...

Twisted Metal: Head-On PlayStation Portable

Great launch game for PSP
Pros: Good old twisted metal fun, new charictars, online infrastructure, challenging gameplay
Cons: Choppy or buggy when alot of cars onscreen, play control can be sluggish
This game was my favorite from the PSP. I only played a few before I took it back, but I bought this one with it at launch and I was glad I did. It is really good to just break out and play a round or two anywhere, plus the infrastructure works well. It was neat playing online alough the game would be slow or choppy. The graphics and levels were good however and the cars even better. Nice learning curve as with all twisted metals. Great game to buy with a new PSP. ...

Tony Hawk's Underground 2: Remix PlayStation Portable
PlayStation PortablePrice: $66.99 to $66.99 Compare PricesMarch 8, 2006
Tony Hawk to-go
Pros: Severall added levels onto THUG2 (you can't play anywhere else), Soundtrack, Good graphics
Cons: No Online, Choppy play controll and gameplay, limited depth
This game proves to be everything you are looking for if you can deal with the PSP itself. It seems that most action games can't run quite at full speed yet and become choppy when you really start playing. Before that, however, the game looks exellent. I don't remember if the game has a great soundtrack like the consoles, but I'm pretty sure it does. This game also features 4 or 5 ALL NEW levels that weren't in the THUG 2 console release, hence the remix title. For dedicated THPS fans it's worth it to play just to see the new levels, but it's not quite the solid game the the console ones are. ...
On the brink of World War...
1 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this review helpfulPros: Good play control, Average storyline, Good use of vehicles
Cons: Limited application of the non-linear format, Game seems too easy at times and too hard at others
This game might look to you like a generic piece of crap. It kinda is, but look closer. This game had a few elements I really liked about it, especailly the warzone atmosphere. As inconcievable as that many factions being that close together may be, the game was nonetheless fun and convincing. You felt like you were really traveling through a war zone.
Speaking of traveling that was one of the best things about this game. Each faction has their own vehicles and this game features helicopters as you would hope. There is usually a vehicle close at hand (exept for when you are stuck in the middle of nowhere) so no walking around for hours. Most vehicles have several positions with mounted guns.
The "gang warfare" mechanic remined me a lot of GTA 2. If you played that game you will understand what I mean. If you get in good with one gang or faction, it may affect your standing with another (if they know heh heh).
This game makes an exellent 1 player (off line) third person shooter, but you will beat it in less than two weeks. Try to rent it. ...
