A Rebirth Of Psychedelia In All It's Forms
Pros: Unique
Cons: None
These days people don't often associate Phil Collins with anything too musically relevant, maybe even bordering on boring MOR poppy kitch.I tell them to go get the 'Face Value' CD emmediately. It's purely brilliant!"In The Air Tonight" is a great ambient hit-full and empty in all the right places.Same goes for "Tomorrow Never Knows",even eerier then The Beatles original. The Earth Wind & Fire horn section Phenix Horns give some of these cuts alot of funkiness, similar to Peter Gabrial's R&B stylings to come.Phil Collin's all time artistic and musical crowning achievement! ...

Narada Can Do Anything
Pros: Excellent Music
Cons: NONE!!
Narada Michael Walden is my absolute favorite musician!Every single one of his albums are terrific. He's a good producer but his own music is in a class by itself. He's a brilliant talent.Check out "I Don't Want Nobody Else (To Dance With You)".That has to be my favorite song ever!Get this CD or rip down the used record stores for his old records. No weeds in Narada's garden of love light! ...

Pure Energy!
Pros: The livliest stuff I've ever heard
Cons: Passport Are Flawless Here
Passport are SICK!!!Kurt Cress is a SICK drummer-mental in fact.On every cut here the man is having a virtual nervous breakdown on the skins, giving even Rush's equally sick Neal Peart a run for his money. This sounds alot like somewhat jazzy Rush with no lyrics. It rocks out and gets funky all at the same time.If you want to see what jazz rock fusion was all about and hear it at it's hardest edge this is what you should be looking for. ...

This Man Is A Genious
Pros: Special mention for original thinking
Cons: Nothing
Johnny Guitar Watson is brilliant! He was pre-Prince and covered the same territory-individual lyrics,he played his own instruments and the barriers between soul, funk, blues and jazz flew out the window to him.On this album he plays every sing instrument and plays with the music inside and out like a toy box.Turn it on,turn it up and pay attention! You won't hear anything quite like this! ...

Three Great Reasons To love Rufus
Pros: A Full On Masterpiece
Cons: None
Why should one love this album? The great funky cover for one.Another is ANDRE FITCHER!!!May have been a nut job but that drumming sound he gets on "Fool's Paradise" the the spectacular "Dance With Me" only make Chaka Khan sound seven more like an eighth wonder of the world.Get into this and listen! ...

All About The Drum Fills
Pros: Music For Musicians
Cons: Not Music For Dullards
Rush is one big three way human rhythm section. The bass, guitar and drum all play the same basic role.I've only heard a few Rush recordings and this one amazes me.It's a conceptual piece that works mostly as a whole."Distant Early Warning" and "Red Sector" are endless sheets of rhythm-percussionary bass and fluttering guitar that flies in and out. This music is complex, heavy but very beautiful underneath it all.Great dynamics! ...

Universal Love Is In The Sky
Pros: Energetic Music
Cons: None
'adventures of astral pirates' is a lesson in brilliant drumming and has one tune not to be missed. That would be the spiritually inclined "Universal Love".Even if you not a fan of crackerjack musicianship pick up this wonderous CD for that one song. And put it on after Earth,Wind & Fire. ...
The Start Of The Journey
Pros: Original And Dynamic
Cons: A different look at their music but no cons
Journey started with this album led by Santana singer and keyboard player Greg Rollie. His husky voice is matched to Neal Schoens brilliant guitar playing. But here Journey is a very experimental jazz-rock fusion band with little of the prog rock style they'd be known for.Alot of Journey fans I know condemn this album for being too different from their others and for not having Steve Perry. They're right on both accounts. But this is probably the only Journey album that will appeal to a jazz fan.Further listening on this end would be any of Neal's music with Jan Hammer-worth hunting down. ...
