catcher in the rye
Pros: classic tale
Cons: reality bites
if a huge dose of reality is what you're looking for look no further.
character goes off the deep end in a world with consquences.
a very sober tale of a young man's self destructive behavior and his quest to alienate everyone around him.
not a story that'll cheer you up...
i read this book twice before, once in highschool and another in college (i was an english major)...then i was gifted this book last christmas and i have a completely different perspective about it and why i was gifted such an item.
first...i feel no young person could be as bitter about life and itrked by trival things like the main character.
second...as a gift, it sends a message that obviously the person giving it feels that our relationship sucks.
anyways...good read, classic and excellent commentary concerning human behavior. ... -

service to become a citizen
Pros: thought and vision
Cons: short
amazing vision and philosophy.
the concepts presented are incredible and enduring.
beyond the future military operations and the soldiers story, the author presents democracy in a whole new light.
a pure version that produces citizens that know what is at stake and have defended what they believe in.
a must read along with brave new world, 1984 and other political fiction... ... -

vampire novel beyond ordinary
Pros: imagery and locations...
Cons: note, emails and mail...all distract
Terrifying and mesmerizing...this book had me on the edge of my seat
and I couldn't put it down.
Slight distractions...the letters received by the books heroin are
unnecessary...and provide little support to the story. The reading of
emails and snail mail did allow more suspense to build as I wanted to
find out about the danger the heroin was facing
Marks takes you into a place so very dark...the imagery so vivid you
can see the splatter. ... -

new beginnings and ends
Pros: witty
Cons: none really
a lot of new beginnings...plus many awkward social and domestic situations.
strong themes of sex, crime and death.
book about social misfits and the misunderstood...some people with great intentions misinterpreted while others have less than honorable plans.
the characters reinvent themselves through failed marriages, jail time, dating, retirement, funerals, distant/surrogate parenting, etc... ... -

unraveling of a family and old wounds too...
Pros: detailed history and character development
Cons: none
clearly in the genre of 'the lovely bones' moriarity takes us into a community and allows us to get a front row seat to the suffering, confusion, and issues involved in many different issues in american life.
themes ranging from teen sexuality, depression, death, and modern life are discussed.
the book allows you to witness how one incident tears apart a family and opens old wounds. ... -

in gibson style but off the mark
Pros: style
Cons: disorganized
this book was trying really har to be a william gibson style techno thriller...but i found it too disorganized.

creepy tale
Pros: characters
Cons: plot isn't for children
after reading this i'm rather surprised that it's marketed as a children's book.
imagery is on the creepy side for children.
art work and prose are fine, excellent pace and character developement.
i haven't seen the movie.
very quick read, in that respect it's not a book i'd recommend for children but no doubt they would be able to read it. ...
