...the sun is definately risiong on Dido !
1 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this review helpfulPros: it's a great album, from beginning to end.
Cons: let her scream once in a while!
Life for rent, Dido's second album, sounded just OK when I bought it. But having it in my cd-player all the time for about a month, made me realise i can't get enough of it! It's just as beautiful as No Angel, but still different.
She got more comfortable with her voice this time, her voice stands out and she's not relying on instrumentation like she did before. The sound is more singer-songwriter-ish, the songs like Life For Rent, Mary's In India and This Land Is Mine are not overproduced, but simply show just Dido with her guitar.
There's still that Rollo/Faithless influence, which i love so much, on songs like Stoned, See You When You're 40, Who Makes You Feel and Do You Have A Little Time (she performed this song on her previous tour, not everyone like the studio version because it's totally different, no piano, it doesnt sound so romantic anymore, it's more dark...still, wicked!).
Her music is a mix of music genres she's been influenced by: the hip-hop beats, trip-hop, pop, rock, folk, ... You'll find a nice mixture + THAT VOICE.
It's easily seen that Dido grew up as a lyricist too, with songs like Mary's In India (the famous twist at the end!), Life For Rent (my favorite right now) and See You When You're 40 (Dido is just mean in it!!! And I love that!).
My last thought: Life For Rent is definately worth buying (if you liked No Angel, you can't go wrong with this one) and I hope you'll like it as much as I do.
Enjoy! :o) ...
I don't know how she does it..!

Cons: -----
White flag is Dido's first single taken from Life For Rent.
39;m in love and always will be"...
...
1. White Flag - It's a splendid love song. It talks about loving someone and being afraid to tell them so, because it can mess things up.
"I know you think that I shouldn't stil love you or tell you that. But if I didn't say it, well I'd still have felt it, where's the sense in that?"..."I
White Flag is powerful yet remains simple and pure at the same time. Quite easy to relate to.
2. Paris - a B-side is a folkish song which showcases Dido's voice in all its beauty. With only the guitar and strings, Paris sounds almost like an acapella. Some may find it boring because of that, well, I don't. I think that's what makes this song different and beautiful.
3. Johnny Toobad mix - I don't like remixes in general, they use always the same formula of adding the (same) beats to the song, which I don't find so original. Surprisingly, this one is more interesting then I thought. It's kind of growing on me, but still, it remains just a remix to me.
