better than deep impact
For your "asteroid about to destroy the earth" movie, you should definitely go for Armageddon. For a start it has Bruce Willis in it - one of the better action heroes of our time. Plus it's directed by Michael "The Rock" Bay who can handle action better than most. Forget any semblance of a plot - the title says it all. All you need to do is kick back and take in the sumptous visuals, edge-of-the-seat antics and weird humour (Mr Steve Buscemi, everyone). This film is basically done with the slickness that you expect for a summer blockbuster and everyone should get their money's worth of flashing colours and loud explosions. If you like high-octane action films, go for this. ... -

this movie sucks big time
i can't believe whoever rated this movie over one star. It deserves less.
the script is rubbish, the acting the same and there is no action. At all.
Summary of plot: Kid breaks government supercode.
That's it. That's the kind of plot that was concocted on the back of a beer mat after a night of serious drinking.
Bruce is a good actor (anyone who's seen "The Sixth Sense" should agree here) and he makes a great action hero but here he's completely wasted. The direction is lacklustre and boring and that basically sums up the whole film.
Don't bother even contemplating watching this movie. You will regret it. ... -

Entertaining but a bit complicated
Mission: Impossible is one of those films that doesn't make a lot of sense when you first see it. On repeated viewings the plot comes more in to focus but the key to enjoying this film is to realise that it is more style over substance. Brian De Palma (director of The Untouchables) delivers set-pieces which, while more often than not run over the limit of plausability, are sometimes truly heart-stopping. The performances are all solid and Tom Cruise adds an intelligence to the role that a lesser actor (Stallone etc) would have not. Sure, the plot has a few holes and the story is a little too complicated for its own good, but the film rattles along nicely for an hour and forty minutes and with enough high-tech gadgetry to rival the nearest Bond film, this is a perfectly enjoyable blockbuster. ...

Quality X-Files Episode
1 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this review helpful Fans of the series should love this. It has everything the series has but is bigger, bolder and .. well .. you get the picture. I love the X-Files and this movie, while it didn't soar to the heights it claimed it would (you don't really find out anything more than you do watching the series), is more than worth watching. Agents Mulder and Scully once again find themselves facing familiar foes (Cigarette Smoking Man etc) but this is done with such a slick style that it doesn't really matter that we've basically seen this all before. The X-Files has always been essential viewing and this movie does nothing to change that. The set pieces are handled well and Anderson and Duchovny translate perfectly to a film setting (and the film even allows their supressed passions come to a boiling point). All in all, a spot on slice of entertainment. ...
